Job Title: Engineering Technician
Job Description
Under the general supervision of the lab manager, the Engineering Technician will perform a variety of complex tests on engines, carburetors, and components to determine life characteristics and failure mechanisms. The role involves observing and recording test results, supporting the engine and engine component product development process, and being part of a team leading innovations.
Responsibilities
+ Set up instrumentation including thermocouples and pressure transducers, and perform various tests such as power checks, fuel consumption, and governor stability.
+ Operate high-speed data acquisition and combustion analysis software (e.g., AnD, AVL, EFI calibration software).
+ Observe, process, and report test data results using Microsoft Office, influencing future tests and generating new information.
+ Maintain complete records of all scheduled and completed tests, including procedures used and results obtained.
+ Analyze data and make recommendations for minor design modifications and test system or procedure enhancements.
+ Assist with departmental audit functions and collaborate with outside suppliers and customers to ensure accurate testing and results.
+ Understand fabrication procedures and operate tools like lathe, drill press, and welding equipment; read blueprints or engineering documents to prepare equipment and engine parts for testing.
+ Perform setup, maintenance, and calibration of test equipment, notifying the supervisor of maintenance needs to keep equipment functional and compliant.
+ Maintain a clean test area and equipment after use and testing.
+ Ensure an adequate inventory of supplies for scheduled tests, notifying personnel of required orders.
+ Multi-task daily workload with direction from the lab supervisor and/or scheduler, coordinating activities with other technicians.
+ Prepare sample engines and components for testing according to customer applications or engineer specifications.
+ Perform other related duties including troubleshooting and conducting dyno tests.
Essential Skills
+ Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or 2+ years of experience in a related field, preferred OR experience within a hands-on role
+ Strong understanding of internal combustion engine theory and application.
+ Advanced technical communication skills.
+ Experience with high-speed data acquisition and combustion analysis software.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
+ Knowledge of fabrication procedures and the ability to operate related tools.
Work Environment
On-site working in an engine test lab. The role involves hands-on work with engines and test equipment, requiring attention to detail and the ability to maintain a clean and organized work area.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $28.00/hr.
