Douglas County, a large suburban county, is a unique mix of rural to urbanizing communities including Castle Rock, Parker, Lone Tree, Sedalia, Franktown, and Highlands Ranch. Douglas County has a rich agricultural heritage and is interested in developing programs to engage youth, residents, partners, and communities in urban agriculture, horticulture, natural resources, small farm operations, small acreage management, STEM , and leadership development opportunities. Position Summary
The Extension Intern, Douglas County is a part of the Douglas County Extension team and is a representative of Colorado State University and Douglas County. They will work under the supervision of the Extension County Director, Douglas County with additional guidance and support from Extension staff. The position was created to provide support for program staff and to assist in covering the front desk. This position will cover a broad range of topic areas from customer service to horticulture, outreach, 4-H general projects, and 4-H animal projects. The schedule for this position will vary but the team member will be provided 40 hours a week for the summer, approximately May to August with flexibility on start and end dates. This work will include daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Work over 40 hours a week will be compensated with overtime pay. From July 7 through August 3, the team member is expected to fully participate in the entirety of the Douglas County Fair as well as preparatory contests and events. This period will require at least 40 hours a week from the team member.
Position Minimum Qualifications
+ High school diploma or G.E.D.
+ Demonstrated basic computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Canva.
+ Demonstrated experience working with people as individuals and in groups; ability to forge equitable and successful partnerships with other professionals and organizations.
+ Exhibits organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience planning events.
+ Experience managing social media communication and campaigns.
+ Experience with 4-H, Extension, field work, gardening, agricultural or youth education (camp counselor, babysitting, or sports coach for example).
