Job Summary
The Museum of Art is the cornerstone of the arts and culture at Bowdoin College and an integral part of the Bowdoin curriculum. The Student Curatorial Intern will work with staff members in the curatorial department on collections research, exhibition development, and programming.
The Student Curatorial Intern will work with staff members in the curatorial department on collections research, exhibition development, and programming. The intern will assist specifically with the development of a new exhibition of artworks from the BCMA’s Permanent Collection—scheduled to open in June 2026—that will reflect on the 250th anniversary of American independence. With the support of the exhibition’s curator, the intern will help to research specific artworks, select works for inclusion in the exhibition, and draft 140-word exhibition labels for various works.
In addition to their curatorial responsibilities, the Student Curatorial Intern will be expected to contribute to a variety of smaller projects related to the scope of their internship. Opportunity areas include but are not limited to participating in professional development opportunities (including trips to neighboring museum institutions and weekly reading group discussions); assisting publication production; developing educational resources; and facilitating community programming. Additionally, each intern will lead weekly tours of the Museum for a public audience along with their fellow Summer Interns.
Education/Skills Requirements
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program.

Standard Work Days and Hours
The approximate start date for this position will be Wednesday, June 11, 2025, and approximate end date will be Friday, August 8, 2025. During the summer, the student curatorial assistant will work between 35-40 hours, Mondays through Fridays, with occasional weekend and weekday evening hours for special events.
The compensation for this internship is $15.30/hr.
Housing provided by Bowdoin will cost $80 per week, which includes all utilities. All housing options include a kitchen (full fridge/freezer, stove, oven). Housing will open for occupancy on June 9 and close on August 11.
While the dining halls and other dining service (Café, Pub & Grill, Convenience Store, etc.) are open during the summer term, no meal plans will be in effect. If the student elects to eat at the dining halls, they will pay the rate of $6.00 for breakfast, $8.75 for lunch, and $11 for dinner.
