Description of Job
Visitor Center Attendant / Visitor Services: 40 hours/ week.
A customer service based position that involves working in a visitor center greeting visitors, or may be assigned to work in the field in specialized duties at some parks. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills.
Specific Duties may include:
+ Provide information and assistance to visitors (distributes maps/ brochures, orients visitors to park facilities and amenities, promotes education programs, educates on State Park regulations, etc.)
+ Sell parks passes, permits, books, maps, clothing, and other novelties
+ May sell gift certificates, search and rescue cards, boat registrations, OHV registrations and snowmobile registrations, fishing and hunting licenses at some locations.
+ Operate a cash register.
+ Answering of telephones and transferring/taking messages.
+ Photo-copying and filing
+ Collects revenue, completes shift report and balances shift box at end of each shift.
+ May document and report visitor complaints.
+ Cleaning and maintenance duties of interior and exterior of visitor center and park. Including litter pick up, and snow removal.
+ Work with park volunteers
+ Monitor park radio communication and communicate important information to park staff.
+ May assist with scheduling special events and programs within the park
+ Monitor park email and respond to visitor emails or forward to staff.
+ Maintain park calendars and coordinate and schedule park events with staff, and volunteers.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
+ Must be 18 years of age or older.
+ Must be able to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays may be required.
+ Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week.
+ Will need to undergo a criminal background investigation.
+ Willing to work outside, sometimes in inclement weather.
+ Gate Attendant/ Visitor Services must be able to lift 10-25 pounds repeatedly during the course of a single workday
+ Previous experience handling money and working with the public preferred.
+ Basic computer skills required
+ Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service.
+ Must be able to take initiative, work with minimal supervision, and deliver high-quality results.
+ The park will provide uniform shirts, hats, and name tags, however the employee may be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense.
