Job Description
The Field Technician assists by operating survey and environmental instruments and collecting multi-media samples (soil, water, air, vegetation, etc.). The technician will assist with note taking and recording of data during field events. The individual will work under the direction of the survey or sampling lead and follow appropriate health and safety requirements. Office tasks may include summarizing of field activities, tabulation of data, or other reporting of field events.
Responsibilities
+ Work primarily in the field to collect data and samples in two-person teams in remote areas of Alaska or on active mine sites.
+ Assist with sample collection and reporting of sampling events as required.
+ Learn and follow appropriate sample collection methods and documentation requirements, including the use of field instruments.
+ Take accurate and clear field notes and performs note reduction.
+ Follow appropriate health and safety procedures to minimize risk of incidents.
+ Provide support for office-based tasks as assigned.
+ This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
+ Other duties that are pertinent to the survey department’s success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
+ College student preferred; enrolled in science or engineering degree program.
+ High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
+ Familiarity with Microsoft Office software tools, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
+ Must be physically able to work long hours and carry heavy loads.
+ Must be able to work in inclement weather in an arctic environment.

+ Prior sampling or field work experience is preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors/Outdoors – Frequent exposure to moderate to harsh weather conditions. Requires work to be done both inside and outside.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Description of environment: Frequently required to be outside at construction/project sites. Also occasionally inside in standard office setting.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Travel required up to 50% of the time. Employee will travel to remote areas and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs.
