The Position
Fish Hatchery Supervisors manage the operations and maintenance of an assigned hatchery or fish rearing station, and plan, budget and perform maintenance activities in order to provide for an efficient operation and preserve wildlife resources.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located at Nevada Department of Wildlife's Spring Creek Rearing Station near Baker, NV. The position is the station supervisor, responsibilities include ensuring the protection of state assets and infrastructure and efficient production of sport fish species, meeting state obligations to fishing license holders and maintaining the sale of fishing licenses; addressing the needs of the public and meeting the requirements of funding Federal grants as well as supervision of one employee at this remote facility. The successful candidate will be required to reside in Department housing at the Spring Creek Rearing Station. A deduction of $50 for the current rent amount is taken from the employee's paycheck every two weeks. A refundable $500.00 cleaning/damage deposit will be required at the date of hire or by payroll deduction. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management, fishery or related field and two years of technical experience in wildlife management such as establishing and maintaining quality wildlife habitat to meet the needs of a variety of wildlife species;fish hatchery work that included caring for fish, fish eggs and transplanting fish, operating equipment to maintain suitable habitats of wildlife; and providing for security of wildlife management areas. One year of the above experience must have been in a leadworker capacity; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience in wildlife management such as establishing and maintaining quality wildlife habitat to meet the needs of a variety of wildlife species; fish hatchery work that included caring for fish, fish eggs and transplanting fish, four years of which involved overseeing the operation of a fish rearing station; operating equipment to maintain suitable habitats of wildlife; and providing for security of wildlife; analyze and project budget expenditures relating to completion of annual work program; organize and schedule equipment and personnel to efficiently operate a fish rearing station. One year of the above experience must have been in a leadworker capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Fish Hatchery Technician III in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
Positions in this series are required to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement and air brake certification.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Incumbents in this series are required to reside in Department housing at the hatchery that is provided by the Department of Wildlife.
All positions in this series are required to respond to emergency situations which may occur during non working hours.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
