    Overview

     

    Programmers in Distribution Automation will be responsible for remotely programming and troubleshooting distribution line devices. This individual will have a direct impact on grid performance, reliability and safety. This individual will also be a key player for future grid enhancements accounting for new loads and technologies. This role will be crucial in enabling PPL to move its existing infrastructure into a state-of-the-art resilient grid and achieving the company's goal of becoming the best utility in the US.

    Responsibilities

    Programmer I/II/Sr - Distribution Automation:

    • Responsible for remotely programming devices such as reclosers and cap banks on the distribution line for new installations, failed equipment and downstream protection setting updates.

    • Responsible for troubleshooting device communications and operations.

    • Responsible for programming applicable systems to support new installations.

    • Promote and support all company goals and objectives, while conducting all activities with cost awareness and fiscal responsibility.

    • Be an active participant in grid modernization projects providing technical support to other departments.

    • Work with other departments on cross-functional technical and business teams, working groups or committees to achieve goals and objectives of the department and company.

    • Comply with all laws, regulations, industry codes, policies and standards.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • Will be assigned a PPL Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that is activated during storms and other emergencies.

    • Performs other duties as assigned

    • Complies with all policies and standards

    Qualifications

    Programmer I:

    1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a combination of education and experience on a year for year basis is required.

    2. Demonstrated ability to provide technical directions to technical and non-technical personnel.

    3. Sound judgment, technical insight, and strong initiative to direct resolution of complex issues

    4. Strong verbal and written communication and influencing skills

    5. Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1. Experience programming SEL relays, Substation RTUs, Servers, Modems or similar smart devices.

    2. Distribution/Transmission protection and controls experience and/or relay test experience

    Programmer II:

    - All Programmer I requirements, with a **_minimum of TWO years_** of experience in the utility sector, engineering, or other related fields.

     

    Sr. Programmer:

     

    - All Programmer I requirements, with a **_minimum of FIVE years_** of experience in the utility sector, engineering, or other related fields.

    Programmer I:

    Remote Work

    The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
