UW’s Department of Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a Research Study Assistant, which is part of UW School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery.
The Research Study Assistant, under the guidance of the Research Study Coordinator Lead, assists in the operations of research studies for the Department of Surgery, HMC Trauma, Burn & Critical Care Division at Harborview Medical Center.
POSITION PURPOSE
As an integral member of the team, the Research Study Assistant collaborates/works with to provide
1. Research Study Coordination – 50%
Efficiently coordinate, assist in enrollment and monitor all aspects of study subject participation. Must have a thorough understanding of pertinent inclusion criteria.
2. Management of Study Data – 50%
Efficiently coordinate all aspects of subject study data and monitor quality controls to ensure adherence to study protocol.
The successful candidate will be skilled at coordinating and monitoring subject participation; obtaining subject samples and performing the required SOPs for sample preparation; monitoring and managing the program database.

Division/Center Mission:
The Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center at Harborview Medical Center provides the highest level of comprehensive care for major injuries. The Division of Trauma, Burn and Critical Care Surgery is based at Harborview Medical Center. The only Level 1 (regional) Trauma Center serving Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, this clinical arm of Harborview - known as Harborview's Level I Adult & Pediatric Trauma Center - cares for emergency surgical and trauma patients and is closely linked to the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center. Working closely with Plastic Surgery division, Trauma, Burn and Critical Care Surgery provides highly skilled, emergency and rehabilitative burn care for victims in the four-state region. By cooperative agreement with Children's Hospital, Harborview is also the region's only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.

**Position Duties & Responsibilities:** Research Study Coordination: (50%)
+ Have knowledge of the inclusion/exclusion criteria for the study
+ Identify possible subject enrollment in a timely manner
+ Use of Epic for subject screening, monitoring, and obtaining medical information
+ Communicate with hospital personnel on possible procedures and treatments that will affect the subject’s enrollment
+ Communicate with patients and/or family members to provide an explanation of the study and consent form
+ Communicate with the lead Research Study Coordinator and/or Research Nurse Coordinator on subject enrollmentManagement of Study Data: (50%)
+ Maintain adherence to research protocols and verify the accuracy of research study data
+ Accurately enter patient information into the database
+ Have knowledge of the database descriptors and categories
+ Assist in the design and maintenance of the study database **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience OR equivalent education/experience **Additional Qualifications:**
+ Proficient in using Microsoft Office **Desired/Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Knowledge of medical terminology
+ Knowledge of Epic
+ Experience in an inpatient setting with trauma patients
+ Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field **Conditions of Employment:**
+ This position is 100% on-site
+ The position’s work is located at HMC
+ This position will work in an inpatient setting with trauma patients
