    Responsibilities:

    The Systems Engineer II shares responsibility for management and administration of on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure services, including virtual infrastructure, operating systems, storage, maintenance and security patching, backup and disaster recovery preparedness and performance monitoring. Orchestrating and performing automated tasks are key deliverables of this role. Design, setup and maintenance of a continuous infrastructure integration stack, including source control, build servers, automated testing, automated monitoring and solution deployment will be required.

    Responsibilities

    GENERAL PURPOSE:

    The Systems Engineer II shares responsibility for management and administration of on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure services, including virtual infrastructure, operating systems, storage, maintenance and security patching, backup and disaster recovery preparedness and performance monitoring. Orchestrating and performing automated tasks are key deliverables of this role. Design, setup and maintenance of a continuous infrastructure integration stack, including source control, build servers, automated testing, automated monitoring and solution deployment will be required.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    - Prepares use case requirements, design solutions and deploys on-premise or cloud based infrastructure. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of on-premise virtual infrastructure, specifically in clustered high availability environments. Integrates on-premise solutions with cloud solutions. Automates and deploys solutions hosted on both cloud services and on-premise infrastructure.

     

    - Independently completes proactive performance monitoring, analysis, alerting, reporting, and tuning. Independently completes capacity analyses and provision solutions. Completes maintenance activities including deploying patches and ensuring that firmware and software are up to date. Independently completes incident and problem analysis reports, resolves and completes follow-up tasks to ensure platform stability. Escalates when appropriate.

     

    - Performs and advises others on implementation and maintenance activities during business hours as well as outside of business hours.

     

    - Serves in 24-hour on-call rotations when scheduled. Escalates the most consequential issues.

     

    - Maintains an interoperability Matrix in order to ensure cross-vendor compatibility. Creates and reviews technical documentation including solution designs and reference guides. Evaluates new products and services that will help enhance the delivery of infrastructure services.

     

    - Prepares necessary paperwork and documentation to ensure conformance to University standards and procedures.

     

    - Maintains a broad knowledge of technology, equipment, and/or systems.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Data Science, Engineering preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 5 years of related experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in higher education field and/or a healthcare environment preferred. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Expertise with virtualization technology and cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure; Knowledge of server hardware and storage array networks; Excellent verbal and written communications skills and exemplary speaking and presentation skills, as well as the ability to interact with all levels of staff, as appropriate, to communicate, and to process communications from others on technical change; Ability to present technology in non-technical terms and recognize the extent to which a given audience requires this; Ability to provide on-call support as required, as well as ability to perform after-hours and weekend maintenance and implementation activities; Ability to travel to and from Data Center facilities. Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities: Strong scripting skills; Expertise with server operating systems and orchestration and automation tools.
