As a Quality Inspector at Caterpillar Inc., you will verify that products meet the required specifications, from pre-production throughout the production process, and troubleshoot issues. You will investigate internally and externally reported defects to understand impact and root cause. You will provide defect investigation summaries to communicate root cause, containment inspections/rework, and corrective actions.
*Quality control - Check that products meet required specifications by measuring characteristics through use of inspection equipment including CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), laser profile scanner, Keyence IMM, and portable CMM equipment (3D Laser) and PC DMIS software to evaluate tooling and product manufactured at, or supplied to, Caterpillar.
*Understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) print requirements and apply the correct metrology application.
*Maintenance of measuring equipment - Repair and maintain measuring tools to keep them working properly.
*Data analysis - Examine measurement results to find trends or problems.
*Development of measurement procedures - Create methods for accurate and reliable measurement.
*Training and technical support - Teach the correct use and care of measurement equipment
*Technology watch – Stay current on new measurement technologies
*Documentation – Compile measurement data and prepare dimensional reports; example - PPAP submission
*Collaboration with other departments – Use clear and effective communication to work with teams such as Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling and Product/Design Control Engineering to ensure that products and processes meet quality standards.
*Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) to identify potential areas for measurement and process improvements
Basic Qualifications** **:
*** Technical skills - Strong understanding of measurement principles, calibration procedures, and the programming and use of various measurement tools such as (Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), laser profile scanner, Keyence IMM, MTS test equipment and portable CMM equipment/3D scanner, as well as other measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gages, etc.) using PC DMIS software as applicable to evaluate tooling and product manufactured at, or supplied to, Caterpillar **.
*Must have technical knowledge of HPMP products and manufacturing processes; rubber molding processes (compression, injection, transfer, injection-transfer), plastics injection molding of engineered resins
*Analytical Skills - Ability to collect and analyze data, identify problems, and develop/communicate solutions.
*Problem-Solving Skills **-** Ability to troubleshoot issues with measurement instruments and processes.
*Candidate must be advanced in the use of Excel spreadsheets, preparation of dimensional reports, including the use of 3D model images as appropriate to document measurements taken
*Knowledge of Specification Requirements - Familiarity with specifications and standards related to measurement and quality control.
*Must know how to effectively read prints to include GD&T and 1E specifications
*Must have computer experience to include effective electronic communication, Excel, SAP, Infinity, EPIX, HVC, and REDI
*High attention to detail

*Experience with programming and use of measurement equipment such as CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), 3D scanner using 3D model for measurement/overlay, laser profile scanner, Keyence IMM equipment, MTS performance testing equipment
*Experience with preparing dimensional measurement reports for PPAP submission
*Experience with multiple value streams, multiple part teams
*Experience with NPI process
*Communication Skills - Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, engineers, and other stakeholders.
*Candidates must exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills to be able to relay information to people who may need help in understanding highly technical terminologies and metrology principles.

Summary Pay Range:
$24.50 - $30.55
