Description
Pacific Maritime Group provides comprehensive marine services including ocean towing, harbor tugboat operations, crane and deck barge services, salvage, dredging, and marine construction. We proudly serve clients throughout San Diego, Los Angeles/Long Beach, and the entire West Coast - including Alaska, Hawaii, and Mexico.
We are currently looking for an experienced Crane Rigger to work at our San Diego, Ca. location, to set up and repair rigging for the movement of heavy parts and steel within the shipyard. As a rigger, you should have in-depth knowledge of rigging equipment, excellent spatial awareness, and good communication skills. You will work with mobile and floating cranes.
Requirements
Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Responsible for to preparing materials before loading, set up the rigging equipment, operate heavy equipment machinery, and dismantle the rigging after the job.
• Communicate with the Crane Operator and ensure compliance with state health and safety regulations.
• Selects and attaches appropriate lifting gear to loads according to size and weight of equipment and material to be lifted.
• Uses accepted industry practices for safe use of shackles, wire rope and synthetic slings as well as rigging inspection and rejection criteria.
• Uses standard hand and radio signals to direct the Crane Operator for the safe, controlled, movement and placement of equipment and materials in a marine environment.
• Tilts, dip and turn suspended loads while maneuvering over or around obstacles and use multi-point suspension technics as required.
• Tie knots commonly used in the trade.
• Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Uses hand and power tools when necessary to complete assigned tasks.
• Follows direction and safely completes assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
• Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, APTITUDES, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:
• 2 + years of experience as a Rigger
• Willingness to safely complete all assigned tasks with a positive attitude.
• Experience using weight handling equipment and ability to obtain Forklift license.
• Ability to determine the weights of equipment and materials
• Ability to determine the center of gravity of loads
• Shipyard or waterfront experience a plus
• Crane & rigging related experience and qualifications will be considered.
Physical Aptitudes Required:
• Must be able to lift 100 lbs. without restriction. Position involves lifting, pulling ad operating heavy equipment and objects.
• Agility to bend, stoop, or squat, and climb high steps/ladders frequently.
• Physical dexterity and strength to operate deck machinery; work on equipment that is poorly accessible or in confined workspaces.
• Must be able to keep balance/equilibrium while performing duties at various heights.
• Ability to work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.
• Adequate hearing & vision ability.
• Proper heat/cold tolerance, working in all weather conditions.
• Comfortable working while exposed to grease, dirt, paint, water, etc.
