POSITION DETAILS
The Hunter College Computer Science Department seeks an Academic Internship Specialist (HEa) to identify career opportunities and grow hiring pipelines for Hunter College Computer Science students and graduates. The Academic Internship Specialist will engage with employers in defining workforce needs, identifying hiring challenges and opportunities, specifying skills and proficiencies needed to fill available roles, and exploring partnerships to help grow New York’s emerging industries. Reporting to the Chair, the Academic Internship Specialist will support students and recent alumni in the Computer Science major in the Department of Computer Science at Hunter College (CUNY). They will collaborate with department staff,
faculty and academic advisors. They will be responsible for networking and developing internship and career opportunities for students in the fields of computer science.
They will work under the supervision of the Department Chair of Computer Science at Hunter, and will collaborate with department staff, faculty and a dedicated Academic/Career advisor.
Job responsibilities will include:
Student Support:
• Assist students with their resumes
• Advise students in both individual and group meetings on the tech pipeline
• Organize and advise tech workshops, career panels, info sessions, hackathons, and hiring events
• Organize site visits to tech hubs in the New York City area
Build a Community:
• Secure partnerships with employers offering paid and unpaid internships, and full-time job opportunities to
students in the computer science major
• Continuously cultivate and grow employer relationships
• Share employment opportunities and, where appropriate, refer qualified students to employers for specific roles
• Track alumni job outcomes
Establish a Peer Network:
• Coordinate with other industry specialists, campus career offices, Hunter and CUNY leadership to maximize
industry partnerships benefiting the campus and to learn about student and employer needs
• Utilize alumni network to pursue internship and employment opportunities for CSCI students
• Recruit industry professionals to teach computer science elective courses at Hunter College
Create Pathways:
• Secure paid internships and full-time job offers within target majors for our newest graduates
Communicate and Improve:
• Share knowledge with faculty, advisors, and the broader campus to encourage alignment with in-demand skills
• Prepare annual presentation of trends (internal and external) share with faculty
• Prepare annual report of activities, results and plans for next year to discuss with Department Chair
• Participate in CUNY-wide training and events and utilize common tools deployed across the initiative
• Participate in external partnership meetings
Pursue Funding Opportunities:
• Pursue public and private grant opportunities related to student career success
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum requirements for this position are a Bachelor’s degree and four years of professional work experience.
Ideally, candidates will have one or more of the following:
• Experience in career services or economic or workforce development
• Experience with community and business outreach, ideally in implementing talent acquisition, outreach strategies, and business development
• Understanding of business and recruitment and hiring practices in key sectors of the NYC economy (e.g., tech, healthcare, finance).

- Acts as liaison between the College and employer sponsors, monitoring the success of students' internship experiences
- Supervises student internships, assuring adherence to related College and governmental policies and regulations
- Creates and conducts orientation sessions and workshops for students in the internship program; coordinates applications, interviews, and placement as part of overall student outreach
- Provides faculty orientation and development related to internship programs
- Implements and evaluates competencies and other success factors
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with education and experience, within the approved range: $79,188- $- $99,532.
