Position Title: 7th Grade 2D Visual Art
Salary Range: Teacher Contract
Contract Length: Teacher Contract
Immediate Supervisor: Principal
Basic Function: The 2-D Visual Art teacher is a highly qualified and state certified teacher responsible for delivering Grades 5-8 visual art content in a differentiated manner that is aligned with the Indiana Academic Standards for Visual Art and STEAM/arts integration This position will include a combination of classes which may include 2 D visual art and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math,) taught in a project based learning format
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Have a working knowledge of best practices in visual art education, STEAM, arts integration, and Indiana Academic Standards for Visual Art, while implementing a curriculum based in creativity.
+ Guide, motivate and engage students in learning, including understanding the basic elements of art and principles of design, using a variety of art tools and materials.
+ Develop student cognitive and fine motor skills, enhancing artistic vocabulary and communication, promoting self-esteem, self-motivation, aesthetic awareness, cultural exposure, creativity, improved emotional expression and social harmony, relationships, team-building, cooperation, self-confidence, and providing an avenue for building personal artistic competencies.
+ Maintain a safe classroom, using appropriate classroom management skills.
+ Maintain open communication and professional relationships with all stakeholders.
+ Complete and maintain all required student records.
+ Utilize the SBCSC technology, as required.
+ Utilize instructional materials/curriculum/resources recommended for the district.
+ Attend and participate in required staff meetings and building-wide training and initiatives.
+ Control storage and use of all school-owned art equipment and supplies.
+ Assist with compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
+ Display student artwork in the school building, rotating it as is appropriate.
+ Host a Visual Art or Fine Arts Fair during the year for parents to attend (highly recommended) can be done in conjunction with a vocal and/or instrumental music event.
+ Attend corporation-wide Visual Art and Fine Arts staff meetings and training sessions, as scheduled.
+ Sign up and hang student artwork in the Administration Building for a minimum of two months, annually.
+ Participate in the annual IC Art Exhibition at the Colfax Cultural Center.
+ Conduct ongoing formative and summative assessments of students lievement.
+ Accompany and supervise students on field trips, when necessary.
+ Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
+ Adhere to the district's safety policies and procedures.
+ Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business.
+ Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance.
Qualifications:
+ Licensed and highly-qualified in the area of Visual Art.
+ Ability to manage a budget and supplies.
+ Knowledge of state, district and school policies and procedures.
+ Ability to interpret district policies, procedures and data.
+ Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
+ Experience working in an urban environment is preferred.
+ Must not currently be on a Performance Improvement Plan
+ Specialized training in STEAM/Arts integration
+ Knowledge and/or practical experience with gender based instruction.
+ Actively engage parents in the education of their children.
+ Maintain regular documented communication between home and school.
+ Utilize technology daily to enhance the learning environment.
Physical Demands:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other technologies and office equipment, sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time; kneeling; bending at the waist; lifting; pushing; pulling and carrying equipment, supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds; repetitive hand movement and fine coordination to use a computer keyboard; emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep all aspects of the job under control; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read; prepare and assure the accuracy of documents.
