Description
Robert Half is assisting a client in San Diego, CA in their search for a skilled Payroll Specialist. This role is ideal for professionals who demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and possess a deep understanding of payroll procedures, compliance, and technology. In this position, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for employees across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
+ Process multi-state payroll for hourly, salaried, and contract employees on a bi-weekly or semi-monthly basis.
+ Manage payroll data entry, including timecard collection, bonuses, commissions, benefits, and garnishments.
+ Handle payroll tax filings, W-2 preparation, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
+ Ensure accurate computation of employee hours, pay, and deductions using payroll software systems (e.g., ADP, Paycom, or Workday).
+ Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies or employee inquiries in a timely manner.
+ Collaborate with HR regarding employee changes, including new hires, terminations, and salary adjustments.
+ Assist with payroll system upgrades, implementations, and process improvement projects.
+ Ensure compliance with all wage and hour laws, including overtime and reporting requirements.
Requirements
+ Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
+ 2+ years of payroll processing experience in a mid-sized or large organization; experience with multi-state payroll is a plus.
+ Proficiency with payroll systems such as ADP, Paycom, Paylocity, or Workday is required. Intermediate-level Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
+ Strong understanding of FLSA, tax regulations, and payroll compliance requirements. CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is strongly preferred.
+ Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills. Ability to maintain discretion with sensitive and confidential information.
