Summary This National Guard position is for a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER, Position Description Number D1226000 and is part of the NJ CSMS 1, National Guard. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, repair, and inspection on a full range of small arms and related devices. Responsibilities As a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER, WG-6610-8, you will: Perform overhaul, maintenance, and repair on a variety of small arms Diagnose and identify mechanical deficiencies and/or malfunctions in weapons Disassemble weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components Examine for defects, mechanical misalignment, and malfunctions Replace parts and assemblies Modify small weapons Apply finishing agents and test fires and/or perform operational checks of arms Apply modification work orders as required Use hand and power tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments to small arms Ensure the accountability, storage, and security of arms and other sensitive items Requirements Conditions of Employment CAT 3: All ARMY New Jersey National Guard members Additional Employment Requirements: -Participation in direct deposit is mandatory -May be required to successfully complete a probationary period -Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation -Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Military Grade: There are two positions with the same grade requirement of SPC/E-4 to SFC/E-7. Applicant(s) (Enlisted) who are over grade must clearly state, in their resumes, their intentions to willingly take a reduction in grade Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position. *Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1) Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates a working knowledge to read and interpret instructions, repair manual, specifications and drawings; must have a knowledge of shop mathematics sufficient to use testing devices and measuring instruments; and be proficient in the use and maintenance of hand tools and equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 12 months of experience or training; Demonstrating the ability to work effectively and efficiently on weapons and mechanical systems in disassembly for repair, inspection to diagnose mechanical malfunctioning, wear and/or damage is required. Adjusting levers, gear linkages and synchronization of interrelated mechanical systems.
