Position Summary:
This role will be instrumental in leading and managing corporate accounting, financial reporting, internal reporting, and budgeting processes across a dynamic organization. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, change-driven settings and brings strong technical accounting expertise, operational excellence, and a mindset for continuous improvement. The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, transparency, and operational insight while helping to scale systems and processes. This position is on-site in Houston, TX, Monday through Thursday, and remotely on Fridays.
Essential Duties:
Corporate Accounting and Financial Close:
• Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting for corporate and subsidiary entities.
• Oversee general ledger activities, including accruals, intercompany transactions, and inventory-related accounting.
• Maintain proper documentation of accounting procedures and adherence to US GAAP and company policies.
Internal Reporting and Budgeting:
• Own the preparation of monthly internal management reports, including financial performance summaries, KPI dashboards, and operational metrics.
• Work closely with FP&A to deliver budget-to-actual variance analysis and support executive decision-making.
• Collaborate with department leaders to develop and refine annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
• Monitor and track key cost centers, inventory turnover, and gross margin drivers across business units.
Private Equity and Board Reporting:
• Prepare and deliver timely financial packages for board and executive management.
• Support the preparation of board materials and strategic finance reports, including cash flow forecasting and working capital analysis.
Audit, Controls, and Compliance:
• Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, managing the preparation and delivery of audit documentation and reconciliations.
• Strengthen internal control policies and ensure documentation of SOX-like controls in anticipation of future growth or public readiness.
• Support integration of newly acquired entities into financial reporting processes and accounting systems.
Process Improvement and Systems Development:
• Lead initiatives to automate and streamline reporting, reconciliation, and consolidation processes.
• Partner with FP&A and IT to align data structures across systems and improve visibility into business performance.
• Assist in ERP optimization projects or potential system transitions.
Leadership and Collaboration:
• Mentor and manage a growing team of accountants and financial analysts, ensuring high performance and accountability.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and commercial teams to ensure financial data supports strategic goals.
• Support post-acquisition integration of new business units from an accounting and internal reporting perspective.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
• CPA and/or MBA preferred.
• Must possess very strong management skills.
• Possess 15-20 years’ experience leading corporate accounting and finance teams.
• The individual must place intense focus on metrics and KPIs.
• Must possess highly polished communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Possess a Transformation background (highly organized and comfortable with agile, fast-paced change).
• Must be a “Big picture” thinker who also understands the real work being done by each team.
• Must be able to provide routine support for the CFO in the creation of board-level presentations.
• Ability and interest in training and mentoring team members.
Skills and Job-Specific Competencies:
• Experience in the energy/oil and gas, manufacturing, or industrial industries.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Eagerness to work collaboratively in a very fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Travel Requirements: No travel will be required, unless at the client's discretion.

Salary Range: SolomonEdwards values your unique and individual experience and background. As such, we take a comprehensive approach when determining compensation for our roles. The compensation for this specific role is based on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to education, licensure and certifications, location, experience, and training. A reasonable estimate for the current hourly range for this role is $70 – 83.
