    Essential Job Duties:

    The UNC Upward Bound Program is a federally funded TRiO Program designed to help Scholars develop the skills and motivation necessary to pursue and succeed in college, ultimately attaining a Bachelor’s Degree. Each summer, the program hosts a comprehensive 6-week Academy that emphasizes academic enrichment, professional development, and personal growth opportunities.

     

    THRIVE Course Overview

     

    THRIVE is a dynamic course developed by the UNC Upward Bound Program to promote holistic student development while providing practical college preparation tools.

     

    Throughout the course, Scholars will be encouraged to think critically about themselves, their relationships, their communities, and the world around them. They will also receive tangible strategies and insights to support their success in post-secondary settings.

     

    The course will be co-instructed by the Upward Bound Program Counselor and a T HRIVE Coach, offering well-rounded support and mentorship for every Scholar. The THRIVE Coach will collaborate with a dedicated team of CHEOP /Upward Bound staff, academic instructors, and a college prep coach to support the success of the Summer Academy.

     

    The 6-week Summer Program will run from June 21, 2025, to August 1, 2025. All student evaluations are due by August 8, 2025.

    Other Work/Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities:

    + Attend required staff training and student orientation

    + Creatively engage Scholars in up to 6 hours of course instruction each week

    + Hold weekly office hours (on pre-determined days/times set by the UB Team)

    + Update grades and attendance weekly

    + Conduct pre- and post-evaluation assessments to measure growth throughout the course

    + Create and submit a syllabus outlining course design (assignments and materials)

    + Attend weekly team meetings to assess Scholar performance, review concerns, and highlight successes

    + Demonstrate integrity, dependability, and a passion for promoting college access and student success

    Required Qualifications:

    + Strong communication and presentation skills, particularly with high school students.

    + Commitment to fulfilling all assigned responsibilities throughout the academic portion of the Summer Program.

    + Able to consistently present themselves as positive, motivational role models to Scholars

    + Must successfully complete a background check (additional information will be provided to selected applicants).

    + Term of employment will be two weeks from June 21, 2025, to August 1, 2025. All student evaluations are due by August 8, 2025.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience working with disadvantaged youth.
