    Ballard competes in the highly competitive Raccoon River Conference. Ballard is a growing school district in central Iowa. We have excellent facilities and strong athletic programs. Ballard has tremendous community support for their athletic programs. Our coaching staff works great together and encourages student-athletes to be involved in multiple sports and activities. We appreciate volunteers working to continue to build on the current program's success.

    Qualifications:

    -Up to date coaching authorization (or in the process of being renewed)

     

    -Up to date required trainings for Ballard (or in the process of being completed)

     

    -Completion of a background check

     

    Job Title: Assistant Coach

     

    Reports to: Head Coach, Activities Director and Secondary Principal

     

    Basic Function: The assistant coach plays a crucial role in supporting the head coach in all aspects of team management and player development. They assist in training sessions, game preparation, and strategy development, contributing to the overall success of the team.

    Essential Functions:

    + Assist with Training: Help plan and execute training sessions focused on improving individual skills and team tactics.

    + Game Preparation: Assist in scouting opponents, analyzing game footage, and developing game plans and strategies.

    + Player Development: Provide feedback and guidance to players to help them improve their skills and performance.

    + Support Head Coach: Collaborate with the head coach in making decisions during games and practices.

    + Skill Instruction: Teach specific skills and techniques to players, both individually and in group settings.

    + Player Evaluation: Assess player performance during practices and games to provide input to the coaching staff.

    + Team Management: Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, equipment management, and travel arrangements.

    + Player Communication: Maintain open communication with players to address concerns, encourage, and foster a positive team environment.

    + Community Engagement: Represent the team in the community, participating in events and engaging with fans and supporters.

    + Compliance: Ensure compliance with school, conference, and state rules, regulations, and standards of conduct.

    + Maintain high integrity and confidentiality in the school operation.

    + Be knowledgeable of and abide by all school board policies, procedures, and other applicable laws.

    + Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.

    + Dress appropriately for the position and work required.

    + Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students, and job and communicate the same to the community.

    + Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility.

    + Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job.

    + Greet all students, faculty, staff, and visitors courteously

    + Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.

    Qualifications:

    + Previous coaching experience.

    + Strong knowledge of the sport and its rules, as well as coaching techniques and strategies.

    + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team.

    Working Conditions:

    + The position may require evening and weekend work, as well as travel for away games and competitions.

    + Work environment varies depending on the sport, but may include outdoor fields, indoor arenas, or gymnasiums.

    + Physical requirements may include standing for long periods, running and, demonstrating techniques to players.

    Terms of Employment:

    + As stated in the signed Contract

    + The term of the position shall run concurrent with the specified sport coached, according to the approved Unified Activity Calendar by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

    Evaluation:

    Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Secondary Principal and the Activities Director.
