Job Description and Duties

This position is Limited Term (12 months); it may become permanent, be extended up to 24 months, or be cancelled at any time.

Under direction of the Program and Project Supervisor of the Compliance Analysis Unit in the Standards Compliance Branch of the Efficiency Division, the incumbent performs a wide variety of mechanical engineering assignments in connection with mechanical engineering design, drafting, and inspection work; and does other related work in the fields of Field Verification and Diagnostic Testing (FV&DT) program and the Acceptance Test Technician Certification Provider (ATTCP) program. The Standards Compliance Branch has primary responsibility of promoting compliance with the substantive and procedural requirements relating to the Building Energy Efficiency Standards. In addition, the incumbent represents the division and the California Energy Commission (CEC) before various state, federal, and local energy agencies and regional, national, professional, and governmental bodies which significantly influence the state’s energy policies with respect to Compliance Analysis Unit activities. The incumbent will serve as a knowledgeable resource on policy, technology, market, and strategic issues as directed; and plays a primary role in coordination and collaboration with other state, federal, and local agencies, as well as other interested stakeholders and the public.

Working Conditions

This position provides hybrid telework opportunities. Beginning July 1, 2025, employees may be required to work in-person four days per week under the Energy Commission's telework policy currently under development as required by Executive Order N-22-25 and current CalHR guidance. CEC will review requests for exemptions on a case-by-case basis, with consideration to operational needs and the benefits of in-person interaction. Teleworking is only available for employees who reside in California. You must be located in California and provide your in-state address prior to your start date. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. Occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

+ Experience in energy modeling and building or building systems design.

+ Experience in construction supervision and contract/subcontract management.

+ Any data analysis background, specifically experience in Tableau, R, Python or similar programs.
