DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will be responsible for performing skilled maintenance and repairs on a diverse range of vehicles, including cars, trucks, tractors, and various types of construction equipment such as rollers, sweepers, and mixers, as well as powered hand tools. Your duties will include conducting repairs on diesel equipment, with the exception of diagnostics, parts rebuilding, and the repair of air brake systems and diesel engine fuel injection systems, including injectors and pumps. You will also implement a preventive maintenance program for vehicles and equipment, which encompasses tasks such as oil changes, automotive mechanical diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, and repairs or replacements of engine sub-assemblies. Additionally, you will handle cooling system repairs and adjustments, as well as work on suspension, electrical, heating and air conditioning, fuel, brake, steering, and driveline systems.
You will be tasked with conducting official state safety and emissions inspections on vehicles that fall under your licensing category. This involves ensuring that all repairs meet regulatory specifications, performing road tests on vehicles, completing inspection stickers, and affixing them to the vehicles, along with maintaining accurate State Inspection Records and related documentation. Your responsibilities will also extend to diesel equipment, where you will perform oil changes, service filters, and replace components such as water pumps and gaskets. Furthermore, you will address repairs on electrical systems, cooling systems, suspension, and driveline systems, while also executing other necessary repairs.
In addition to these tasks, you will make essential field adjustments to ensure safe operation and reduce wear on equipment. You will carry out minor repairs and preventive maintenance, which includes cleaning and servicing equipment. You will also demonstrate repair techniques on assigned equipment to fellow employees and assist other Diesel Mechanics with major repairs. Maintaining accurate equipment records will be a crucial part of your role. Moreover, you will provide emergency road service and may occasionally perform maintenance and repairs in field environments, such as County Stockpiles. Your skill set will also include performing burning and cutting operations using oxy/acetylene torches as required. Lastly, you will be responsible for obtaining necessary parts and supplies, and may provide original equipment manufacturer (OEM) information to purchasing personnel to facilitate procurement.
