    Job Title:Outpatient Peer Advocate

     

    Employment Type:Full-Time

    Job Summary:

    In accordance with FLACRA’s mission, vision, and values, theOutpatient Peer Advocateplays a vital role in supporting clients with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Under the supervision of the Clinic Director, you will serve as a role model, mentor, and advocate by sharing your personal recovery journey and teaching effective coping skills. This role involves providing non-clinical peer support in both outpatient and inpatient settings to help clients regain independence and successfully navigate their recovery process.

    Must-Have Qualifications:

    + High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

    + Valid NYS Driver’s License with the ability to use a personal vehicle for client visits.

    + Lived experience with homelessness and substance use disorder and/or mental illness.

    + Willingness to participate in peer certification training, with the goal of obtaining CRPA-P certification within 4 months of employment.

    Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

    + Certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist (NYCPS) through OMH or OASAS.

    + Certified Peer Advocate (CRPA).

    Skills & Competencies:

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    + Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively with culturally diverse individuals, staff, and community service providers.

    + Proficient at multitasking and problem-solving, with strong time management skills.

    + Ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations.

    + Competence in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.

    Job Requirements:

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Team Collaboration:

    + Serve as an active member of the client’s treatment team by attending team meetings and treatment planning sessions.

    + Recovery Planning & Support:

    + Assist clients in developing and implementing individualized recovery plans, including crisis planning.

    + Provide psychoeducation focused on illness management and peer support through one-on-one sessions.

    + Role Modeling & Advocacy:

    + Share your personal recovery experience to inspire clients and teach effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.

    + Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure access to necessary resources and services.

    + Case Management & Documentation:

    + Maintain accurate and thorough records for all assigned cases, using documentation to monitor client progress.

    + Support case management efforts by coordinating services and providing resource information.

    + Training & Professional Development:

    + Participate in required training to maintain certification and stay current on best practices.

    + For Tier 2 certified staff, model leadership and support Tier 1 peers.

    + Outreach & Engagement:

    + Facilitate outreach efforts to engage clients who struggle to connect with treatment services.

    + Additional Duties:

    + Perform other tasks as assigned by the Clinic Director to support the overall mission of FLACRA.
