    General Scope of Duties

    Are you ready to lead an exciting campus-wide exploration of artificial intelligence in the liberal arts? Connecticut College is seeking a dynamic individual for the Harold F. Wiley Teaching & Learning AI Fellow, a two-year position dedicated to sparking innovation and collaboration across our community. You’ll work closely with faculty, students, and staff to integrate generative AI tools and topics into teaching, research, and the academic life of campus. Reporting to the Director of Research Support & Curricular Technology you’ll join a passionate team within the Library & Information Technology division, surrounded by experts in information literacy, instructional technology and digital scholarship. This position is in-person with potential to work remotely up to two days; In-person collaboration will be essential for key events and meetings.

    General Duties and Responsibilities

    Primary Responsibilities

    This list covers a wide range of potential duties. The specific responsibilities will be finalized based on the skills and experience of the person selected for the role.

     

    + Leadership and Coordination:

    + Lead the AI@Conn initiative, ensuring alignment with the College’s strategic goals.

    + Partner with key campus groups—like the Dean of Faculty’s Office, the Joy Shechtman Mankoff Center for Teaching & Learning, The Ammerman Center for Arts & Technology, Department of Computer Science, and the Connections Pathway: Data, Information, and Society—to coordinate AI discussions, speakers, and events.

    + Faculty Development:

    + Design and deliver workshops, seminars, and online resources on generative AI for faculty with varying levels of expertise.

    + Provide one-on-one technical and pedagogical support to faculty and their students (with a primary focus on classes receiving AI-related assistance) to ensure effective and ethical use of AI tools in teaching, research, and scholarship.

    + Teaching and Curriculum Development:

    + Manage the AI@Conn budget and facilitate a faculty-led selection committee responsible for awarding faculty development grants and stipends.

    + Guide faculty in integrating AI tools and topics into their courses, offering support for assignments, course redesigns, or creating new courses.

    + Research Support:

    + Provide technical expertise to support student-faculty research projects involving AI, conducted during the academic year and summer as needed.

    + Tool Support

    + Oversee the acquisition, testing, vetting, and potential use of curricular AI tools (software & hardware) in a manner that upholds the College’s information security requirements and the College’s overall principles of ethical use, equity, environmental sustainability, transparency, accountability, and privacy.

    + Outreach and Networking:

    + With support from an internal team, organize and lead an annual symposium (fall 2025, 2026) on AI and the Liberal Arts, featuring workshops, guest speakers, and presentations of exemplary projects.

    + Connect with peer institutions and professional networks to share insights and promote collaboration in AI education.

    Additional Contributions:

    + Develop metrics to evaluate the success of the initiative through surveys, course evaluations, and project outcomes.

    + Prepare regular progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.

    + Participate in professional development through conferences, seminars, and networking. The Fellow will have access to a professional development budget for conferences and training.

    + Engage in campus life by attending events, lectures, and performances.

    + Carry out additional tasks as needed to support the role’s mission.

     

    Education and Skills

    Education:

    + Required: Bachelor’s degree with substantial experience in areas such as teaching, educational technology, or library and information science.

    + Preferred: Master’s degree or Doctorate

    Experience:

    + Background in teaching, education, instructional technology, library and information science, or a related field. (We encourage a diverse pool of applicants from educational institutions, non-profits, and industry).

    + Proven success in leading and coordinating complex, multi-stakeholder projects

    + Knowledge of current trends and best practices in curriculum development, course design, and instructional technologies.

    + Well-organized, able to work under pressure and as a member of a team.

    + Travel as necessary to fulfill obligations of the position.

    Skills:

    + Demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence and its pedagogical applications

    + Strong organizational and project management skills.

    + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and sustain relationships with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
