    General Summary(What is done and why)

     

    The Commercial Loan Officer provides quality business lending expertise through financial counseling and product awareness to Credit Union members regarding their business financing needs and generates investment quality business loans by taking loan applications in support of loan growth objectives. The Commercial Loan Officer role may focus on a larger volume of small-to-moderate sized lending relationships or a smaller volume of larger lending relationships. The role may also serve as a development step to gain experience and knowledge for larger or more complex lending relationships. The Commercial Loan Officer total loan portfolio is typically transitionary with both smaller and larger lending relationships and a total of around $25 million.

     

    Essential Functions, in Priority Order(Majority of duties, but not meant to be all inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary)

     

    + Provide initial and on-going financial counseling and commercial lending expertise and recommendations to members through member interactions, discussions, visits, and planning. The lending process includes interviewing, financial analysis, loan structuring, and risk assessment/mitigation, leading to the development and presentation of a credit recommendation to the appropriate approval authority. The lending process includes coordination and collaboration with commercial credit staff and loan documentation staff. Time: 40%.

    + Closely manage and monitor commercial lending relationships by obtaining required and/or appropriate on-going financial information, assessing trends and performance of commercial lending members, visiting with borrowers on a regular basis, and discussion of strategic or planned activities and needs of the commercial member. Time: 20%

    + Responsible for identifying cross-sell opportunities to secure business and personal deposit relationships, Treasury Management relationship, personal mortgage and consumer loan relationships, and other credit union products and services. The role requires partnering with Treasury Management staff, branch staff, and consumer lending staff to facilitate the expansion of relationships. Time: 15%

    + Develop and maintain relationships within the community to promote business loan programs, deposit products, and ancillary services through outbound business development calling efforts, referral generation from accountants, attorneys, and other centers of influence, and community involvement. Represents the Credit Union at community functions.Time: 15%

    + Serve as a non-voting member of Commercial Loan committee and actively participate in the review, discussion, and decision-making of commercial loans presented at loan committee meetings. Time: 10%

    Qualifications

    Education(Minimum education required to perform the duties of this position)

     

    + Bachelors' degree or two years of related work experience required.

     

    Experience(Minimum experience required to perform the duties of this position)

    In additionto the education requirement:

    + Generally, at least three years of dedicated commercial lending experience or highly translatable skill set and experience required.

    + Developed business relationships and established professional network within community desired.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities(Minimum technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position)

     

    + Thorough business knowledge of the business lending industry.

    + Experience with treasury management sales.

    + Demonstrated secondary market skills and knowledge.

    + Excellent communication skills.

    + Knowledge of lending laws, regulations, policies and compliance.

    + Ability to develop or improve loan products.

    + Ability to develop strategy for seminars, presentations and trade shows.

    + Proven track record of effective sales/service skills and techniques.

    + Valid Driver’s license.

    Physical Demands(Physical effort generally associated with this position)

     

    Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time, but most work is done from a seated position. There is potential for eyestrain from reading detailed reports and computer screens. Deadlines, workloads and pressure to achieve goals may cause increased stress levels.

     

    Working Conditions(Typical working conditions with this type of work and environment hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position)

     

    Internal– Work is normally performed in climate -controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc). No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of duties. Length of day is unpredictable; long hours may be required to accommodate deadlines or special meetings.

     

    External– some overnight travel may be required; however, information on environmental conditions is not available.
