    JOB SUMMARY

    The Visual Media Manager is a key member of the Marketing and Communications team, responsible for creating and overseeing high-quality photography, videography, and digital content to enhance the university's brand reputation, drive enrollment, and engage alumni and donors. This role involves hands-on production, editing, and management of digital assets, as well as strategic oversight of projects to ensure alignment with institutional goals.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    _Content Creation:_

    • Produce high-quality photographs and videos to support enrollment, donor engagement, and alumni relations initiatives.

    • Edit and enhance visual content using professional software to ensure brand consistency and high production value.

    • Capture and produce content for real-time or near real-time distribution, especially during live events or campus activities.

    • Coordinate with faculty, students, and staff to source stories that showcase the university's academic and co-curricular strengths.

    • Plan and execute creative storytelling projects for use across digital and print platforms.

    _Digital Asset Management:_

    • Manage the university’s digital asset management platform (Canto), including cataloging, tagging, and maintaining an organized library of visual assets.

    • Establish and enforce usage rights and permissions for visual content to ensure legal compliance.

    • Regularly audit the asset library to retire outdated materials and identify content gaps.

    • Train and support team members in accessing and utilizing the platform effectively.

    _Brand and Strategy Alignment:_

    • Ensure all visual content aligns with the university’s branding guidelines and strategic goals.

    • Collaborate with Marketing, Admissions, and Advancement teams to develop and execute visually engaging campaigns.

    • Advise departments and units on effective visual branding, offering guidance or templates to support decentralized content creation.

    • Contribute visual strategy recommendations during campaign planning or rebranding initiatives.

    _Project Management:_

    • Develop project briefs and scopes of work in collaboration with campus partners to ensure alignment on objectives and deliverables.

    • Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, setting timelines and managing resources to meet deadlines.

    • Engage and oversee external vendors or freelancers for specific projects as needed.

    • Maintain clear documentation of project timelines, approvals, and revisions for accountability and archival.

    _Equipment Maintenance and Procurement:_

    • Maintain and manage photography and videography equipment, recommending upgrades or replacements as necessary.

    • Ensure proper use and storage of university-owned equipment.

    • Maintain a budget for equipment upgrades and replacements, including justification and lifecycle planning.

    • Coordinate with IT or facilities as needed for secure storage or shared use of equipment.

    _Collaboration and Innovation:_

    • Stay current on visual media trends, tools, and technologies to enhance the university’s competitive edge.

    • Work cross-functionally to identify opportunities for new visual media strategies that support institutional priorities.

    • Represent the university at professional conferences or peer networks related to visual media, storytelling, or higher ed marketing.

    • Pilot emerging technologies, such as drone photography, 360-degree video, or AR/VR, when appropriate for strategic initiatives.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    This position reports to the: Director of Marketing and Communications

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KEY COMPETENCIES

    • Ability to translate strategic goals into compelling visual concepts, particularly in support of enrollment and institutional branding.

    • Expertise in photography and videography, including lighting, sound, and editing techniques.

    • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Lightroom) and other editing software.

    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

    • Exceptional visual storytelling skills and creativity.

    • Familiarity with digital asset management systems (e.g., Canto).

    • Understanding of branding principles and how visual media supports brand identity.

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

    • Knowledge of accessibility standards for visual content (e.g., closed captioning, audio descriptions, alt text) to ensure inclusivity and compliance with ADA and WCAG guidelines.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Videography, Multimedia Production, Marketing, or a related field or equivalent experience.

    • 3+ years of professional experience in visual media production and project management.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • Master’s degree in a related field.

    • Experience in higher education or a similar industry.

    • Proficiency with additional creative tools (e.g., After Effects, Final Cut Pro).

    • Experience managing or implementing digital asset management systems.

    WORKING CONDITIONS / EQUIPMENT

    Must perform the following essential functions with or without a reasonable accommodation:

    • Frequent use of professional camera and video equipment, as well as editing consoles and software.

    • Regular travel to capture content at events and locations across campus or offsite.

    • Ability to lift and transport equipment (up to 25 pounds).

    • May require evening or weekend work for event coverage.

    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    • This is a full time, 1.0 FTE, exempt position, 12 months a year.

    • This position may require overtime during peak seasons.

    • Occasional night and or weekend work may be required.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    **Pay Range:** $67,000 - $77,000 annually
