Salary: $65,000 - $68,000
The Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, works within the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and plays a critical role in advancing DEI principles, values, and practices throughout Watson College. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Assistant Director will support the overall mission and activities of the office, as well as specifically attend to programs that support the recruitment, retention, and overall success of women and underrepresented student populations. The Assistant Director will engage in recruitment activities to increase underrepresented student populations at Watson College (undergraduate and graduate) and develop partnerships with colleges and universities, specifically minority-serving institutions (MSI).
Duties of the Assistant Director include:
+ Serve as liaison with Binghamton University undergraduate admissions office to develop recruiting activities to increase the number of qualified applicants to Watson College
+ Serve as liaison with Watson Graduate Recruitment and Admissions and the Office of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions (OGRA) to support diverse recruiting activities
+ Develop and maintain robust partnerships with Minority Serving Institutions (MSls) (i.e., HBCUs and HSIs)
+ Responsible for the college's participation in GEM Consortium; administer GEM-related activities (i.e., GRAD Labs, information sessions, application advising)
+ Provide oversight of academic success programs (e.g., Watson College Scholars, LSAMP, etc.) and advise students
+ Represent Watson College at national venues and conferences (i.e., SHPE and NSBE conferences)
+ Supervise student assistants as needed
+ Develop and administer DEI workshops for Watson College students
+ Support strategic planning activities within the office and work with the Assistant Dean to evaluate and revise priorities
+ Develop and monitor key performance metrics for the office; conduct assessment and evaluation activities
+ Generate Watson Office for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (WEDEI) annual report
+ Provide front-line support and advising to students
+ Track and monitor the budget
+ Oversee day-to-day operations of the Watson DEI office
+ Supervise Watson Diversity Office staff as needed
+ Seek grant money and/or foundation money
+ Work with individuals from different nationalities, cultures, experiences and backgrounds
+ Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
+ Communicate with both internal and external constituents
+ Work independently and in a team
+ Ability to work evenings or weekends to support programming
+ Ability to travel nationally and internationally
The approximate allocation of time is:
+ 50% Programming and Student Engagement
+ 25% Travel
+ 15% Administration
+ 10% Training development
Job Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree and three, or more, years of professional, related experience
+ Experience working with diversity, equity, and inclusion practices
+ Experience with program development and assessment
+ Public speaking or presentation experience
+ Excellent customer service skills
Preferred:
+ Master's degree
+ Two or more years of higher education experience
+ Experience teaching classes and designing curriculum for courses
+ Grant experience
