Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)
Salary: $62,000 - $70,000
The Financial Data Analyst is responsible for providing data analysis, financial reporting, and actionable insights to support the Division of Student Affairs, focusing primarily on Parking, Transportation, and Auxiliary Services departments. This role involves working closely with stakeholders to ensure data-driven decision-making, reconciliation of financial information and reporting of financial and operating data, on both a routine and ad-hoc basis. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical skills and experience with data tools such as excel dashboards, Microsoft Access and SAS, and possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
Financial Analysis
+ Work closely with the Associate Director of Business Operations and department leadership to plan and implement the annual operating budget, monitor budgets, review revenue and expenditures, and analyze fiscal performance.
+ Reconcile monthly financial statements and budget variance reports. Track expenditures and/or payments ensuring they are posted to proper accounts.
+ Work with department staff on a daily reconciliation of receipts with banking and credit card records, as well as University business systems.
+ Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and assist program areas with strategic financial planning.
+ Prepare and manage University fee and chargeback forms to ensure compliance with state regulations, and University policies and procedures.
+ Oversee all processes relating to revenue collection including cash handling and deposit procedures, and point of sale software configuration.
+ Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of reporting activities.
Data Analysis & Reporting
+ Manage the integration of data from various sources, financial databases, and external data providers to create management reports for decision making. May include monthly operating statements, dashboards, and a variety of ad hoc reports.
+ Develop and maintain reusable dashboards with excel and SAS, or other data visualization tools.
+ Create actionable insights that aid leadership to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement in support of the strategic plan.
+ Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data visualization.
Stakeholder Collaboration
+ Work closely with stakeholders to understand their reporting needs and provide customized solutions.
+ Present findings and insights to senior leadership in a clear and compelling manner.
+ Train and support a Graduate Assistant in reconciliation of financial receipts and use of data analytics tools.
+ Build positive relationships across the University, supporting business and financial initiatives, and providing expert advice to improve overall business functions.
+ Assist with other department initiatives, programs and special events.
Job Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, Business or a related field
+ Minimum of one year of professional experience
+ Experience using Microsoft Office
+ Extensive experience using Microsoft Excel
+ Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
+ Master's degree (or higher) in a related field
+ Experience with SAS or other database query programs
+ Experience working with Access databases
+ Experience working with NYS financial systems and accounting structure
