Research Engineering Manager Responsibilities:
1. Lead the end-to-end development, training, and deployment of large language models (LLMs), with a focus on enhancing model robustness, scalability, and aligning AI assistant capabilities with user needs.
2. Grow a team of domain experts within Language Foundation of Generative AI.
3. Develop technical vision, long-term strategy and set direction for the team and the organization.
4. Drive the application of the User Data Flywheel framework for continuous model improvement, leveraging insights from user interactions to enhance AI performance throughout training stages, including Human and Synthetic Data Generation, Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT), Data Policy Optimization (DPO), and Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF).
5. Design, implement, and continuously refine comprehensive evaluation frameworks and benchmarks to measure and optimize AI performance, using both automated and human evaluation methods.
6. Formulate, implement, and maintain privacy standards for Generative AI in alignment with global regulatory requirements and internal ethical guidelines.
7. Lead the development of technologies to prevent model memorization, enable user data de-identification, and reduce residual privacy risks, supporting compliance while enhancing MetAs competitive positioning in the AI space.
8. Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, applied researchers, and data scientists to push the boundaries of Generative AI capabilities.
9. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the team, encouraging creative problem-solving and knowledge sharing.
10. Work closely with product managers, legal, policy teams, and privacy experts to ensure cross-functional alignment and successful implementation of AI initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:

11. Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Software, Computer Engineering, or related field, and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in the job offered or in a machine learning related occupation.
12. Requires 5 years of experience in the following:
13. 1. Lead high-performing teams, managing complex, cross-functional projects, and advancing generative AI models from research to production
14. 2. Experience in large language model, NLP, and Transformer modeling, in the setting of both research and engineering development
15. 3. Experience in AI training frameworks, reinforcement learning, model evaluation methodologies, and privacy standards, including data anonymization and de-identification techniques
16. 4. Experience in presenting complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including executive leadership and external stakeholders
17. 5. Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in AI research, such as Python, C++, and experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch
18. 6. Experience with large-scale distributed systems, AND
19. 7. Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, legal, and compliance, to align AI initiatives with business goals and regulatory requirements.
Public Compensation:
$277,476/year to $290,180/year + bonus + equity + benefits
