As an LCH Phlebotomist Technician Clerk at Lodi Community Hospital, you will perform the collection, initial preparation and delivery of specimens to support our Laboratory testing services. In this role, you will also complete various clerical functions, including assisting with registration, scheduling and gathering patient information. All your work ultimately allows caregivers to continue providing the exceptional medical and diagnostic services our patients and community have come to expect from Cleveland Clinic.
A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM - 12:00PM, with rotating Saturday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Perform clerical/registration duties, such as assisting with patient registration, addressing patient concerns and coordinating appointment schedules.
+ Collect demographic information from patients, including insurance or payment information.
+ Collect biological specimens, observe patients for adverse effects and report immediately to supervisor.
+ Prepare samples for testing.
+ Verify patient demographics, test information, sample identification and specimen type.
+ Perform limited laboratory and evaluate validity of test results using quality control standards and instrument function checks.
+ Identify and accession specimens using appropriate computer hardware and software and transport specimens.
+ Answer incoming calls and assist or directs caller to appropriate personnel.
+ Handle calls to and from physician offices and other departments regarding patient information, orders, testing or results as required.
+ Maintain accurate records regarding the collection and collation of data, including number of patients seen and productivity reports.
+ Communicate promptly regarding patient information and unusual tests requests/questions to the Coordinator.
+ Ensure that appropriate levels of inventory of supplies are maintained by submitting requests to the supervisor.
+ Receive supplies and expendables, label appropriately and distribute to appropriate storage/work areas.
+ Assist in training and/or orientation of new staff, students and residents.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ High School Diploma/GED
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of hire
+ One year of experience with specimen collection and laboratory techniques and procedures
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or similar formal training program
+ Experience with patient registration and insurance billing

Physical Requirements:
+ Visual acuity and manual dexterity sufficient to operate equipment requiring fine adjustment.
