Position Overview:
The Library Aide/Paraprofessional plays a vital role in supporting the collections, services, and daily operations of the high school library. This position assists students, including students receiving special education services, to ensure access to resources and accommodations. The role also includes collaborating with staff to ensure educational resources are effectively available and utilized to support student learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Library Support:
+ Assist with the circulation of library materials (check-in/check-out, shelving, organizing resources).
+ Support the maintenance and organization of library collections (books, databases, digital resources).
+ Provide basic assistance to students and staff in locating, accessing, and using library materials and technologies.
+ Assist with library displays, promotions, and reading initiatives.
Student Support:
+ Support students with special education needs by ensuring their accommodations are met within the library setting and during independent or supported study times.
+ Provide individual and small group support for students needing assistance with organization, assignment completion, technology use, and accessing reading materials at appropriate levels.
+ Collaborate with case managers and special education teachers to implement individualized accommodation plans (IEPs).
Staff Collaboration:
+ Work with teachers, staff, and the Media Specialist to ensure instructional materials, databases, and digital resources are readily available and accessible to students.
+ Prepare and organize resources needed for classroom projects, research activities, and student interventions.
+ Assist with scheduling and supporting library space use for classes, groups, and school events.
General Expectations:
+ Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
+ Exhibit a student-centered, positive attitude while assisting.
+ Demonstrate reliability, organizational skills, and effective communication.
+ Assist with basic technology troubleshooting related to student use of library resources.
+ Support a welcoming, inclusive, and organized library environment.
+ Perform other related duties as assigned by administration or the Media Specialist.
Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent required.
+ Prior experience in a school setting, library, or working with students with special needs is preferred.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
+ Comfortable using computers, library databases, and basic educational technology.
+ Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
+ Ability to lift and move library materials (up to 25 pounds).
+ Paraeducator certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred but not required upon hire.
