ABOUT THE POSITION
Reporting to the Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer provides direct athletic training services for all John Jay athletic teams. These services include injury evaluation, prevention, treatment and therapeutic exercises along with bracing and taping of varsity athletes. The assistant athletic trainer will cover practices and games which will include team travel as needed. Duties will also include: communicate with team physician, athletic director, coaches, strength and conditioning coach, and all other support staff regarding athletic injuries, illness, and rehabilitation. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Provides the Athletic Trainer with frequent updates and assessment of athletic training services.
+ Recognize, evaluate, assess and treat athletic injuries/illnesses or refer to medical professionals/services, and to provide immediate or follow-up care;
+ Provide injury/illness prevention and risk management services for student-athletes; Provide treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning programs in consultation with coaches and student-athletes;
+ Provide consultation to the student-athlete and coach regarding injury status, clearance, and the ability to perform while maintaining HIPPA regulations;
+ Ability to clearly, accurately, and fully complete medical forms related to injuries and insurance coverage and to maintain required medical records;
+ Assist Athletic Trainer with administrative responsibilities (student work study supervision, supplies/equipment inventory, facility maintenance, and medical record keeping);
+ Ensures that NCAA, John Jay College, and CUNYAC policies and procedures are being adhered to;
+ Ensure appropriate coverage for practices, home games;
+ Participates in regularly scheduled staff and department meetings;
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work cooperatively with medical staff, administrative staff, coaches, and student-athletes;
+ Remain up-to-date with the athletic training profession and related fields;
+ Contributes to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by willingly performing all other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Head Athletic Trainer.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required.
Preferred qualifications include:
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Athletic Training
• National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification certified.
• 2 years of athletics experience preferred.
• NYS Licensure
• CPR & AED Certification
• Proficient with on-line medical records systems and concussion management system (SWAY).
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Supports the administration of College athletic programs.
- Assists with compliance programs activities required by the CUNYAC (CUNY Athletic Conference) and external bodies
- Serves student-athletes through providing advising services and enrichment programs
- Organizes student-athlete communications and activities, and other department work such as calendars, materials, reports, handbooks, and compliance manuals
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$65,946 - $75,131
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
