    General Statement

    Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding.

     

    Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration.

     

    The department or program search committees or hiring authority will review and evaluate the submitted application materials. Applicants will be notified if their application is being retained in the non-tenure track faculty hiring pool.

     

    Appointments are on a part-time basis and vary in duration, a couple weeks, a semester or an academic year, depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on number of courses taught and duration.

     

    We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

     

    We hope to attract applicants who can teach in a diverse University community and have demonstrated the ability to help students from diverse backgrounds succeed.

    Responsibilities may include:

    + Teaching in-person or online courses with the expectation of availability on campus

    + Advising, evaluating and assisting students and/or

    + Curriculum and/or course development

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

    + Terminal academic Degree in a relevant field or a related field or comparable professional experience.

    + Demonstrable skills appropriate to the specific course(s)

    + Demonstrated experience working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues within and outside the department

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

    + Significant record of accomplishment related to the desired teaching area(s).

    + Demonstrated commitment to student, faculty, and staff diversity.

    + Non-Tenure Track Faculty – Any position that is .5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University ( AFMSU ).     The Program

    The Photography Option at Montana State University offers both artistic (fine art) and applied (commercial) approaches to the medium, providing a solid foundation for those entering a professional field and those choosing to pursue postgraduate education. It is one of the few comprehensive four-year photography degree programs in a sizable geographical area of the north central and northwest United States. It is also one of the few remaining programs that continues to teach analog wet darkroom practices fully, as well as being fully digital. In addition, the Photo Option offers courses in historic 19th century processes, and two art history survey courses devoted to photography.

     

    Montana State University is also a "Carnegie 100” research university as well; thus, extensive research expectations of its tenure-track faculty means that there is active exhibiting in shows and publications. this activity keeps the school quite contemporary. Our program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

    The College

    The College of Arts and Architecture is home to distinctive academic programs housed in the Schools of Art, Architecture, Music and Film & Photography. Students enjoy close mentoring relationships with faculty through a curriculum that is rich in studio- and lab-based pedagogy. The College offers international and cultural travel opportunities for students in all majors and encourages internship experiences for many of its programs. The College hosts the only accredited Architecture program in Montana and supports a unique, world-class graduate film program in science and natural history filmmaking. Graduates from the college enjoy successful careers in art, design, media production, photography, architecture, education and music as well as apply the discipline, creative problems solving skills and work ethic embedded in their programs to any career. The College is home to the internationally recognized Montana Shakespeare in the Parks theater company and supports the Black Box Theatre as well as innovation and design spaces such as the Design Sandbox for Engaged Learning and the Community Design Center.
