    Description

    We are looking for a dedicated Patient Access Specialist to join our team on a contract basis in Bangor, Maine. This role is 7:00am-3:30pm M-F and rotating Saturdays. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring smooth admission processes for patients while adhering to organizational policies and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional customer service skills and attention to detail as they interact with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative systems.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assign accurate medical record numbers (MRNs) and conduct compliance checks to maintain organizational integrity.

    • Provide clear patient instructions, collect and verify insurance details, and process physician orders with professionalism and care.

    • Perform pre-registration tasks, including inbound and outbound calls to confirm demographic and insurance information, while addressing financial liabilities and payment options.

    • Explain consent forms and patient education materials to patients, guardians, or guarantors, ensuring all necessary signatures and documentation are obtained.

    • Review insurance eligibility responses, select appropriate plan codes, and input benefit data to support billing and collection processes.

    • Screen medical necessity using designated software, informing Medicare patients of potential non-covered services, and distributing required forms.

    • Execute point-of-service collections, including past due balances, while adhering to set collection goals.

    • Utilize quality auditing tools to verify account accuracy, conduct thorough audits, and provide statistical data to leadership for process improvement.

    • Deliver excellent customer service in every interaction, ensuring compassion and professionalism are consistently upheld.

     

    Requirements • Proven experience in customer service, preferably in a healthcare setting.

     

    • Strong administrative skills with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.

    • Proficiency in data entry and managing large volumes of information.

    • Familiarity with insurance verification processes and compliance standards.

    • Ability to handle collections and payment negotiations with tact and professionalism.

    • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, guardians, and healthcare providers.

    • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

    • Knowledge of medical forms, consent procedures, and healthcare regulations is a plus.
