Payroll Specialist

• Location: Bloomington, MN (Hybrid – 4-6 months in office, with potential for hybrid schedule thereafter)

• Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

• Compensation: $65,000 – $75,000 annually

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week

Overview:

A healthcare organization in the Twin Cities metro is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join its finance team. This position supports the accurate processing of multi-cycle payrolls for a dynamic group of employees including salaried, hourly, and specialty pay groups. What You'll Do:

+ Ensure timely and precise payroll processing for multiple pay groups (bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and customized cycles)

+ Maintain accurate employee records and updates within the HRIS system

+ Perform wage calculations and apply adjustments (bonuses, deductions, garnishments, overtime, true-ups, and disability pay)

+ Validate and reconcile payroll entries against source data to ensure compliance and accuracy

+ Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, and serve as the go-to for payroll-related inquiries from staff and leadership

+ Monitor employee status changes including onboarding and terminations to determine appropriate compensation

+ Assist in quarterly and annual tax reporting (941s, W-2s, W-4s)

+ Stay informed of federal and state payroll regulations and compliance requirements

+ Support audits and provide internal reports to finance and leadership

+ Collaborate with team members to ensure cross-training and coverage of all payroll functions

Requirements

What We're Looking For:

+ 4+ years of relevant payroll experience (healthcare or multi-entity organizations a plus)

+ Strong understanding of payroll tax laws, garnishments, and benefit deductions

+ High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

+ Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and data entry skills

+ Experience handling payroll for employees in multiple states

+ Proficiency with payroll/timekeeping systems; experience with ADP or UKG a plus

+ Comfort navigating Excel and using it to support efficiency

+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills
