JOB SUMMARY
The Department of Public Works (DPW) Dispatcher will monitor and assist users of the radio channels that allow radio communication with the DPW and general radio traffic of Black Rock City (BRC). They will provide the community with a trusted source of knowledge, serving as an ally for solutions and productivity. This position will also assist with administrative duties within the department.
This temporary, ineligible for benefits role is:
+ From August - September : Full-Time , Non-Exempt , based in Black Rock City, Nevada .

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Dispatch Duties (95%)
+ Maintain an open conduit of communication between the DPW and other departments and community services of BRC.
+ Assist with administrative tracking and office duties as requested.
+ Set a personal good example of proper radio conduct for all radio users.
+ Update and keep an accurate record of communications in the Dispatch Operations Logbook.
+ Keep regular and clear communication with the Dispatch Manager through direct interface; attend meetings as needed.
+ Maintain a clear, professional, positive, and constant radio presence while on shift.
+ Be a source of truth, taking care to not spread misinformation and tracking where to find appropriate information.
+ Follow the standards as outlined by management when working on new and updated documentation and make sure to capture all relevant information in its appropriate place.
+ Work with Google products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Word and Excel, and any additional online tools, technology or applications specific to this role as required.
+ Assist with low-key customer service questions and battery exchange.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%)
+ Work with the Team to plan and execute LNT and Waste disposal plans for all relevant operations.
+ Adjust workflow to support changing safety protocols as directed.
+ Participate in Meetings when requested and maintain related correspondence.
+ Be familiar with, understand and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies, protocols and behavioral standards.
+ Monitor personal well-being by setting realistic goals and managing self-care while proactively addressing any concerns with management.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
LEARNING AND TEACHING
+ Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
+ Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
+ Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
+ Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
+ Prior experience with radio traffic control and radio technology.
+ A disposition for handling stressful workloads and potential emergency situations in a focused, positive, and calm manner.
+ Ability to monitor high-volume radio traffic on multiple channels, multi-tasking while taking clear notes.
+ Communicates clearly, concisely and with appropriate professionalism both verbally and written; Effective communication at all levels (able to adapt style when necessary) and comfortable with high-traffic two-way radio communication.
+ Flexible, able to track and switch from conversations quickly and easily without losing the thread.
+ Operates with behavioral integrity and discretion of sensitive information; maintains tidiness in work ethics and the work environment.
+ Able to receive and integrate feedback into action and maintain an enthusiastic demeanor that inspires by example.
+ Working knowledge of Google products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to learn, use, and routinely update any online tools, applications and documents, proactively asking clarifying questions to smooth any process or system as needed.
+ Comfortable handling real-time data entry for large amounts of information and managing several streams of communication simultaneously.
+ Capable of working in an extreme environment including drastic temperature changes, high winds, poor air quality and low to no visibility at times.
+ Ability to temporarily relocate for work at the Burning Man event held in Gerlach, Nevada
Preferred
+ It is helpful if the candidate has been to Burning Man and is familiar with the event worksite, DPW, Black Rock City and its other departments.
+ Comfortable with working in remote wilderness and/or desert environments.
+ Familiarity with email, reading spreadsheets, and maps.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
+ Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
COMPENSATION
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated rate for this position:
+ From August - September is $15.00 to $17.00 per hour .
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
+ On-playa: Work is primarily sedentary but will also include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
