Position: Nuclear Design/Reload Engineer
Duration: 1 year Contract
System One is seeking a highly motivated Nuclear Design/Reload Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for the core design and analysis activities of advanced nuclear reactors. Your primary duties will include optimizing fuel management, power distributions, reactivity coefficients, and more, while ensuring compliance with functional and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
+ Perform core design and analysis for advanced nuclear reactors, including:
+ Calculation and optimization of fuel management, power distributions, reactivity coefficients, control rod worth, and shutdown margin.
+ Sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification.
+ Support of reactor operational interfaces.
+ Design and analyze new systems for solving complex nuclear-related problems.
+ Execute sensitivity studies to validate modeling assumptions, including:
+ Meshing, physics coupling, transport options, cross-section preparation, fission product treatment, and spatial kinetics.
+ Build corrected methods if necessary.
+ Establish and maintain documentation of analysis results and neutronic design solutions.
Key Qualifications and Skills
Education & Experience
Preferred Qualifications
+ B.S. in Nuclear Engineering with 5-20 years of experience.
+ M.S. in Nuclear Engineering with 3-15 years of experience.
+ Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering with 2-10 years of experience.
+ Competitive candidates may have less experience but possess significant commercial reactor experience.
+ Experience with commercial reactor reload analysis.
+ Strong knowledge or willingness to quickly learn nuclear reactor design concepts to support engineering teams.
+ Experience in core design and analysis including:
+ Fuel management optimization, reactivity coefficients, shielding, activation, control rod worth, and uncertainty analysis.
+ Interfacing with Operations and Reactor Engineers.
+ Strong computational expertise in nuclear engineering.
+ Familiarity with nuclear engineering software such as:
+ DIF3D, MC2, PARTISN, MCNP, Serpent, SCALE, PARCS, APA, CASMO/SIMULATE, DRAGON, etc.
+ Good working knowledge of nuclear and/or general numerical methods (e.g., PDEs, dynamics, deterministic and stochastic particle transport, isotopic depletion, perturbation theory, nuclear data, kinetics, etc.).
+ Experience in transient analysis, thermal hydraulics, and fuel performance (desired).
+ Fast reactor experience or experience with Core Operating Limits Report/Tech Specs is a plus.
+ Experience in software development for nuclear applications is preferred.
+ Strong programming skills in any language is a plus.
+ Experience working in NQA-1 environments is desired.
