    Job Description Summary

    The Alcohol and Other Drugs and Suicide Prevention Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating our alcohol and other drugs prevention and suicide prevention outreach programs for the campus community.

     

    *This is a two-year, grant-funded position funded through August 30, 2026, with the possibility of renewal pending continued grant availability.

    Essential Functions

    Job Duties

    + Reports to the Assistant Director for Wellness Outreach and Education.

    + Provides individual substance abuse counseling for students referred after alcohol violation, hospital transport, or other referral from deans, residential life, etc.

    + Develops and delivers individual and group interventions to support students who wish to remain sober, engage in harm reduction and/or otherwise manage their substance use.

    + Consults with residential life programs staff, student leadership, and other relevant stakeholders regarding AOD initiatives, student intervention and education.

    + Under direction of the Assistant Director, advises and trains student engagement groups and leadership on a variety of topics and health and wellness initiatives, including support for alcohol-alternative activities and events.

    + Develops and delivers AOD orientation programs, as well as health, wellness, and psychologically-oriented educational programs to meet the specific needs of the Nazareth student population.

    + Collaborates on shared initiatives within Student Engagement through effective working relationships with Residential Life, Community and Belonging, Athletics, Student Success, and other campus constituents who support graduate and undergraduate student experiences.

    + Works collaboratively with other mental health and medical professionals within the Health and Counseling Services and local community providers to facilitate referral, case management and ongoing care of students.

    + Participates in Counseling Center staff meetings and clinical case consultation and peer supervision groups.

    + Assists in crisis response to individuals and/or groups during campus-wide crises and natural disasters.

    Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills

    + Master’s in social work, counseling, public health or related field from an accredited program.

    + 2+ years in assessment, education, treatment, and referral for clients with alcohol and other drug issues in a clinical setting.

    + Demonstrated competence delivering effective and engaging education and programming related to alcohol and other drug prevention and education using a harm reduction model.

    + Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills, public speaking, and leading group discussions.

    + Thorough knowledge and practice of applicable laws standards of care and ethical professional conduct.

    + Demonstrated ability to handle spontaneous work demands while undertaking projects that require advance planning.

    Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills

    + Valid licensure as LCSW , LMFT , LMHC , CHES or other related licensure in the state of New York.

    + Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor ( CASAC ) or eligibility for this credential.

    + Experience working in a college/university environment.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    + Supervision of our student peer education program and the peer educators.

    + Supervision of our Department’s Grad Assistant.

    Physical Requirements

    + Prolonged periods of sitting, moderate computer use, and occasional lifting or moving of light objects.

    Equipment to be used

    + Proficiency with typical office equipment is necessary for this role, including computers, printers, scanners, telephones, and photocopiers.
