Job Description
Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mission isMaking Lives Better Through Transportation. As a people leader this position will be responsible for aligning efforts of commitment, transparency, accountability, and ethical behavior of its team. This position assists the supervisor by performing such duties as instructing employees, answering questions, distributing, and balancing the workload and checking work; may make suggestions on selection, promotions, and reassignments. All activities should be in direct relation to the department's core values goals as laid out in its business plan.
Location : Sioux City District office
Shift Requirements : Days, Monday - Thursday, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm, flexible schedule and telework available in accordance with Iowa Department of Transportation policy. Some travel required.
As a Land Surveyor Senior , your duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Directs, reviews and prepares acquisition plats, plats of survey, excess land plats and signs and certifies said plats.
• Leads the field survey crew in land, construction and topo survey activities.
• Research of survey and land records contained in county courthouses, city offices and private engineering and land surveying firms.
• Reviews and performs calculations to determine survey
• Reviews and prepares public land corner certificates as required in Iowa Code, Chapter 114A.11.
• Manages excess ROW for disposal.
• Directs and manages district right of way records, strip maps, and survey documentation.
• Provides technical support to district staff and others regarding land survey and construction survey.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Possession of a current professional land surveyor's license as issued by the Iowa Board of Engineering and Land Surveying and the equivalent of two years of full time professional land surveying experience;
OR
employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to eighteen months of full-time professional work as a Land Surveyor 1.
