Our client specializes in high-volume, precision-turned products with versatility in materials, delivering precision products consistently from prototypes to high-volume production. Renowned among precision-machined component manufacturers, the client is one of Michigan’s leading custom machining manufacturers for automotive fluid components. The Tooling Engineer will manage the tooling management program, focusing on investigating, planning, and troubleshooting machine tool layouts, as well as developing and documenting standards for tooling, in alignment with general business standards and established company policies.
Responsibilities
+ Communicate with vendors and suppliers to provide optimal value and service.
+ Research and advise on purchase items for process automation and improvement.
+ Design and tool machines to produce parts according to blueprint specifications.
+ Test tooling in production to ensure quality requirements and production rates are met.
+ Assist with the improvement and refinement of manufacturing processes and tooling strategies.
+ Collaborate with quality control, engineering, and other departments to address challenges.
+ Establish and maintain the tooling management program.
+ Provide and maintain CAD drawings and tooling documentation.
+ Review and approve redrawn prints for tooling, process layout, and parts.
+ Supervise the setup and layout of tooling and equipment.
Essential Skills
+ 5+ years of experience in tooling design, ideally with screw machines, specifically multi-lathe screw machines.
+ 5+ years of experience with GD&T, including speeds, feeds, and working with tight tolerances.
+ CAD experience with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.
+ Experience working across design, design engineering, and interacting with machinists to ensure part quality.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Familiarity with fixture design and tooling strategies.
+ Experience with tooling design changes and engineering.
Work Environment
The Tooling Engineer will work in a light manufacturing environment, exposed to noise, fumes, and temperature extremes, with a designated desk space.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $43.00/hr.
