Basic Function
Current Junior, Senior and Grad students, from any college or university, are encouraged to apply.
Hours: 20-40 hours per week, from June – August 2025.
Duration: Three months, with the possibility to extend to six months. Specific schedule to be determined upon hire.

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic intern to support our communications efforts and contribute to various projects that impact our communities.
Internship Overview:
The internship will provide opportunities to gain work experience in the areas of strategic communications, visual design, social media, public relations and organizational/internal communications.
The intern will assist the communications team with research, content creation, social media management, and public relations tasks. This internship provides valuable exposure to the workings of public sector communication and is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing careers in government, public relations, journalism, or communications.
Duties may include:
+ Updating and developing written and visual content including web copy, brochures, signage, newsletters, advertisements, presentations and other materials.
+ Producing social media content and helping maintain an editorial calendar.
+ Organizing and preparing content for internal newsletters and communications.
+ Reviewing communications materials for adherence to brand standards.
+ Assisting departments with various communications plans and campaigns.
+ Supporting communications staff at events.
+ Photography.
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ Specific duties may be tailored to the intern’s interests and field of study.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Open to juniors, seniors and graduate students pursuing a degree in communications, graphic/visual design, journalism, English or a related field.
+ Strong writing, editing, visual design and organizational skills.
+ Self-starter, detail-oriented, ability to manage multiple projects.
+ Knowledge of social media, CMS tools, MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, photography and AP style preferred.
+ Interest in government, public policy, and community engagement.

Flexible Workplace:

Examples of Work Performed
This job class is limited to students in post-secondary schools. Duties are designed in light of the student's educational program in order to provide work experience that meets the department’s needs and complements the student's educational program.
Work is performed under the guidance of designated staff. Specific work assignments depend on the terms of the student's educational program and the department to which the student is assigned, and may include duties such as:
• Data collection and analysis;
• Documentation of findings;
• Preparation of written materials;
• Participation with departmental staff in discussions, program design and program implementation.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Enrollment at a post-secondary school in coursework relevant to the duties of the department to which assigned.
Experience: None.
Other: Employment as a Student Intern shall terminate upon graduation or upon failure to remain enrolled in school. With the approval of the appointing authority, employment may continue for up to six months after graduation.

This is an unclassified, at-will position, holding a confidential relation to the department head or elected official. This position requires an open screening and selection process. There is no exam for this unclassified, at-will, position. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be forwarded to the department for consideration.
Definition of Unclassified from the Ramsey County Personnel Act:
Subdivision 1. General. "The appointing authority may discharge employees in the unclassified service with or without cause. Employees in the unclassified service have no right to a grievance appeal from discharge or other disciplinary action under sections 383A.281 to 383A.301. An employee in an unclassified position shall not have tenure but shall be entitled to all benefits associated with tenure such as vacation leave, sick leave, health insurance, and other benefits as determined by the county board."
