    TTU Post Doc Teaching Scholar - Writing Studies

    Contributes to the university's mission through teaching, in an academic unit. Train under the supervision and direction of a faculty mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent teaching. A postdoc appointment is for a minimum of one year with the possibility of annual re-appointment for up to four additional years, for a total not to exceed five years.

    Major/Essential Functions:

    In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants must have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and graduate levels within or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

     

    Successful candidates will teach two sections of first-year writing per semester; mentor graduate student teaching assistants; work under the guidance of a tenured faculty member of excellent qualifications, who agrees to serve as a mentor to the postdoc; and contribute to the research and teaching mission of the department.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

    + A research specialization in writing pedagogy, teacher preparation, mentorship, writing program administration or programmatic research, or similar specialization in writing studies;

    + Experience mentoring graduate students as instructors; and

    + Experience with mentoring novice teachers or a desire to mentor novice teachers.

    About the Department/School/Area:

    The Department of English is a diverse, dynamic, and interdisciplinary department with 45 tenure-line faculty and undergraduate and graduate degree programs in English and in Technical Communication and Rhetoric. Texas Tech’s First-Year Writing Program is housed in the Department of English and serves over 4,000 students a semester. The program was recently heavily revised in 2018, with revitalized and reimagined curricula, professional development, and course delivery models. The program is a two-course sequence: English 1301 grounds students in the reading, writing, and rhetorical practices necessary for engaging in civic discourse and for success in college and beyond.     Faculty Qualifications:

    + PhD in Rhetoric and Writing Studies, English, or closely related field in hand by August 2025.

    + A record of peer-reviewed publication that has contributed to the discipline and/or a research and publishing agenda.

    + A record of teaching excellence (at least 5 college writing courses taught in the past with evidence of excellence)
