LOCATIONS:
We are looking for candidates at City Pool, Carpenter Recreation Center, and Trail Winds Recreation Center.
Under general supervision, instructs group swim lessons.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides quality customer service; enforces policies, rules, and regulations; governs the conduct of patrons using the pool.
Instructs various levels of swim lessons. Keeps accurate records of lessons being taught; distributes swimming lesson report cards to participants.
Ensures all possible safety measures are observed. Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports.
Complies with City and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
IPAP training is required to teach lessons for level 3 and under. A certification in swim instruction such as Red Cross, WSI or equivalent or ability to obtain within 30 days OR at least one year of swim lesson instruction.
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the City of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of swimming skills.
Skill in developing swimming skills.
Skill in teaching swim lessons for various levels.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
Ability to conduct swim lesson instruction to various ages.
Ability to provide a fun learning environment.
Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.
Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays, or flexible schedules.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, climb, crawl, repeatedly twist the upper body, talk, hear, see, demonstrate manual dexterity and perform light lifting. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions.
