    Description of Work Unit

    The Department of Health and Exercise Science ( HES ) is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Colorado State University is Colorado’s land grant institution and holds the Doctoral/Research University – Extensive classification from the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. Faculty in the Department of Health and Exercise Science conduct innovative research in state of the art facilities, with an emphasis on basic, translational, and clinical applications in the area of chronic and age-related diseases. We are committed to our goal of producing nationally and internationally recognized research programs and graduates that are focused on helping people protect and improve their health and quality of life throughout the lifespan.

     

    The Department has ~1100 undergraduate majors, 20-30 graduate students (about 60% MS and 40% PhD). Ten new faculty members (7 tenure-track) have joined the department since 2015. Research activities within the department are supported by the NIH , the American Heart Association, the National Cancer Institute, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and other federal, state, and industry sponsors.

     

    The Human Performance Clinical Research Laboratory is a center for interdisciplinary research, training and outreach that contains 17,000 sq. feet of dedicated, state of the art research space with a full-time physician on staff and an in-house compliance/regulatory/safety team (https://www.chhs.colostate.edu/hes-hpcrl/). Department faculty have academic or affiliate appointments in several schools and departments, including the Colorado School of Public Health, the Prevention Research Center, Biomedical Sciences, and Food Science and Human Nutrition. Faculty regularly collaborate with the University of Colorado Health-North and the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

    Position Summary

    The Academic Success Coordinator within the Department of Health and Exercise Science ( HES ) in the College of Health and Human Sciences is a 12-month, full-time Administrative Professional position. This position will provide an innovative and holistic approach to supporting students with the assistance, guidance, and resources necessary to successfully make critical transitions, develop academic plans, connect with campus resources, and engage in service learning. In all its activities, the Academic Success Coordinator will emphasize and enhance students’ abilities and assets and will support the campus priority for a diverse and supportive learning environment.

     

    The Academic Success Coordinator will play a role in strengthening departmental efforts to provide quality advising and promote undergraduate student success. The Academic Success Coordinator works to support student recruitment and retention; is a professional, positive representative; and a primary point of contact for students.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the position’s essential duties

    + Experience working directly with students

    + Experience and proficiency working with a wide variety of technology and system platforms

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Two years’ experience in an industry related to program content or supporting high school or college/university students in achieving educational and personal goals

    + Demonstrated written communication skills as evidenced by application materials

    + Demonstrated ability to do detailed work, prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines

    + Presentation experience and/or demonstrated oral communication skills

    + Demonstrated ability to advance the department’s commitment to access and success

    + Provide ongoing support to students from enrollment through graduation to ensure their academic success.

    + Offer continued support for students through graduation.

    + Conduct proactive outreach to students, including those on probation or facing challenges.

    + Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus offices to connect students with resources, research, and internship opportunities.

    + Promote student retention by addressing academic difficulty, time management, and other success factors.

    + Track and analyze student progress to inform advising strategies and improve outcomes.

    + Represent the department in recruitment and outreach activities.

    + Ability to work flexible non-standard hours including some weekends.
