    Job Description

    PURPOSE: The IRC Wichita Employment team is dedicated to providing comprehensive employment services to our clients, including job searches, application assistance, and interview preparation. Additionally, the team supports clients in developing essential life skills, such as using public transportation and managing rent and utility payments. These case management tasks are time-consuming and require increased capacity to ensure consistent service delivery. The involvement of interns significantly enhances the effectiveness of these services, ensuring clients receive the necessary support effectively.

     

    SCOPE OF WORK: The Employment intern/volunteer supports all aspects of the employment programs (Matching Grant and Refugee Social Service Employment), including assisting refugee clients to achieve early self-sufficiency and ensuring IRC meets program requirements. The Employment Intern/volunteer will work closely with the Employment Supervisor to support the Employment Coordinator and Specialists providing various services including teaching Job Readiness Training, setting up mock interview workshops, building resumes, conducting job searches, and transportation.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Minimum of 10 hours per week for intern

    • Provide employment services directly to clients enrolled in the employment programs, helping them to achieve early self-sufficiency. Works closely with Employment Coordinator and Specialists to ensure clients receive seamless and high-quality services

    • Serves as an advocate and resource for clients and provides equal treatment to all client groups following the agency's commitment to the dignity of all persons

    • Coordinating with Employment Coordinator and Specialists, work with refugees and asylees to assist with job readiness training (if applicable), resume creation, job search, and job application

    • Provide ongoing support to program clients while also facilitating access to specialized local resources, helping them to overcome the barriers they face to achieve their goals for economic and social self-sufficiency

    • Trasport clients to appointments such as doctor’s appointments and job interviews

    • Working with Employment Coordinator and Specialists, organize workshops for clients such as job searches and mock interviews and for local employment partnerships to support them in understanding clients and cultural diversification, and IRC employment programs.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES:

    • Intern will gain exposure to refugee integration in through programming.

    • Intern will learn to communicate effectively with clients across cultures.

    • Intern will learn to implement programming in a resettlement office.

    Qualifications

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Currently enrolled in college/university

    • Willingness to learn programs, clients, and our work

    • Self-starter with problem-solving skills combined with the ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively

    • Fluent in English, both spoken and written

    • Good communication skills to ask questions, understand tasks, and report to staff

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); ability to use the internet and other digital tools if necessary

    • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle

     

    This position reports to the Employment Supervisor, Gedeon Jino.

     

    The supervisor of this position will do the following to supervise and support the intern/practicum within this opportunity: Intern onboarding, Weekly Check-in, and biweekly Employment meeting.
