    Job Description

    SCOPE OF WORK: The purpose of this role is for a bachelor’s or master’s level student to experience a program with diverse clientele that promotes health and wellness. This role can be at both the micro and macro level. To promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being through education, prevention, and engagement activities. The program empowers individuals and communities to make informed choices about their health without engaging in case management.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES: The priority of this position will be to contact health providers to build partnerships and have a service map that caters to the health and wellness of IRC ORR clients. This student will lead 3 different workshops held for clients to address the health and wellness, assist with wellness groups, and set up client appointments with health and dental providers as well as provide transportation as needed. This position is not case management and therefore, this student will not hold caseloads but rather assist on most aspects of RHP.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES:

    • Demonstrate an understanding of health promotion by Appling social work knowledge to support wellness and prevention in community or organizational settings and articulate how social determinants of health impact client and community well-being.

    • Develop and deliver wellness-based interventions by assisting in planning, implementing, and evaluating group-based interventions and adapt wellness programming to meet the needs of diverse populations using inclusive, culturally responsive approaches.

    • Demonstrate Organizational and Programmatic Skills to Contribute to the coordination of wellness activities, administrative planning, and documentation processes. Understand the structure, mission, and function of a health and wellness program within a larger agency or system.

    • Engage in Ethical and Professional Practice; student will be able to Identify ethical considerations specific to health and wellness programming within a diverse population (e.g., boundaries, confidentiality in group settings, dual relationships, communication).

    Qualifications

    REQUIREMENTS: Currently a BSW or MSW student at an accredited university, a student who has some foundational coursework for generalist social work or health and wellness. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage respectfully with diverse populations. Comfort with public speaking as group facilitation will be weekly or willingness to develop these skills. Competence in time management, organizational tasks, and ability to follow through on assigned responsibilities. Student must have access to transportation.

     

    This position reports to the Interim Safety and Wellness Manager, Hannah Shackelford, LMSW-T.

     

    The supervisor of this position will do the following to supervise and support the intern/practicum within this opportunity: weekly meetings to provide supervision and touch point reviews, biweekly team meetings, provide support with professional goal setting that will be aligned with school expectations and policies. Student will shadow each Refugee Health Promotion team member, and programs at IRC to better understand the full breath of services IRC offers. Student will understand the NASW Code of Ethics and its real world application to health systems.
