What You Can Expect:
This position is a hybrid Patient Educator/Clinical Staff Educator
Clinical Staff Educator
The Clinical Staff Educator provides education and training to staff with a focus in all areas where care is delivered and is responsible for educational programs and processes throughout all Respiratory Care areas. The St. Luke’s Clinical Staff Educator will provide continued clinical learning support including but not limited to onboarding, orientation, education, preceptor preparation, ongoing competency, professional development, regulatory compliance, Joint Commission preparedness, Respiratory Therapy student support, support of evidence-based practice, policy and protocol support, and any education related needs as requested by the Respiratory Therapy Manager.
+ Develops, implements, and oversees the orientation, Competency and/or education of staff.
+ Designs or collaborates in designing educational curriculums, classes, and activities.
+ Evaluates effectiveness and outcomes of educational endeavors.
+ Acts as a facilitator, consultant, and leader in area of expertise.
+ Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.
+ Provides education consistent with current protocols, procedures, evidence, and Magnet (as appropriate)
+ Devises and maintains strategies to ensure professional development.
+ Develops education to meet regulatory standards and all related policies, procedures, and guidelines.
+ Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Patient Educator
The Patient Educator assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the effectiveness of the organization’s health education programs for patients and community residents. The Patient Educator is responsible for specific respiratory patient groups including but not limited COPD, Asthma, and other respiratory diseases, and any other education related needs as requested by the Respiratory Therapy Manager.
+ Teaches and provides support to patients based on the specific needs and learning ability of the patient in relation to their respiratory disease.
+ Coordinates the patient education with other disciplines as it relates to the program specialty.
+ Reviews and updates patient teaching materials related to the program specialty.
+ May assist patients with developing skills they need to manage their disease through behavior modification.
+ Provides comprehensive education to clients who have self-selected the learning opportunity.
+ Provides individualized patient teaching and support to patients based on the specific needs and learning ability of the patient.
+ Assists in development, implementation, and evaluation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards of care.
+ Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: Clinical Staff Educator/Patient Educator
+ Education: Bachelor’s degree or experience in lieu of degree
+ Experience: 2 years relevant experience
+ Licenses/Certifications: Valid license to practice respiratory therapy in state of practice AND Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certified through American Safety and Health Institute, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross.
Patient Educator
+ Education: Bachelor’s in Respiratory Therapy or Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy with 2 additional years of experience
+ Experience: 2 years’ experience.
+ Licenses/Certifications: Valid license to practice respiratory therapy in state of practice AND Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certified through American Safety and Health Institute, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross.
