    The Jobst Vascular Institute Fellowship program is part of the Jobst Vascular Institute, a department of ProMedica Toledo Hospital and is governed under the rules of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and ProMedica’s Graduate Medical Education Department.

     

    Responsible for providing assessment, evaluation, treatment and follow-up care to patients of the Jobst Vascular Center under the direct supervision of appointed faculty. The purpose is to gain expertise in the field of vascular medicine to be eligible to achieve Certification as a phlebologist through the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine (ABVLM).

     

    The following list includes tasks that are representative of those required of a fellow in vascular medicine at ProMedica Toledo Hospital – Jobst Vascular Institute Vascular Medicine Fellowship Program. The list is not meant to be all inclusive nor does it constitute all academic performance measures or graduation standards. It does not preclude the fellowship from temporarily restructuring fellow duties as it deems appropriate for fellows with acute illness, injury or other circumstances of a temporary nature. The fellow, without the use of an intermediary, must be able to complete the accountabilities listed below.

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Take a history and perform a physical examination.

    Administer injections and obtain blood samples.

    Use sterile techniques and universal precautions.

    Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

    Move throughout the clinical sites and hospitals to address routine and emergent patient care needs.

    Evaluate and manage vascular patients.

    Assist in the performance of uncomplicated and complicated venous procedures. This includes radiofrequency ablation (RFA), Endovenous laser ablation therapy (EVLT), and microphlebectomy, and sclerotherapy.

    Perform appropriate laboratory evaluation of peripheral vascular disease.

    Interpret peripheral vascular physiologic testing, for example, angiography, ultrasound, CT, and MRI.

    Communicate with patients and staff, verbally and otherwise in a manner that exhibits professional judgment and good listening skills and is appropriate for the professional setting.

    Demonstrate timely, consistent, and reliable follow-up for patient care issues such as laboratory results, patient phone calls or other requests.

    Input and retrieve computer data through a keyboard and read a computer screen.

    Read charts and monitors.

    Perform documentation procedures, such as chart notes, dictation, and other paperwork, in a timely fashion.

    Participate in all facets of patient care including daily rounds, consults, etc.

    Participate in all conference, weekly case conference, morbidity and mortality conference and endovascular conference, weekly didactics, and Journal Clubs as required by the ACGME or by Jobst Vascular Medicine program.

    Manage multiple patient care duties at the same time.

    Perform venous procedures under appropriate faculty supervision and guidance.

    Perform diagnostic testing utilizing vascular laboratory testing apparatus of various types and interpretation of results of testing under appropriate faculty supervision and guidance.

    Make judgments and decisions regarding complicated, undifferentiated disease presentations in a timely fashion in emergency, ambulatory and hospital settings.

    Demonstrate organizational skills required to care for patients in an outpatient setting with appropriate volume to manage a vascular medicine practice.

    Take call for the service, which requires inpatient admissions and work stretches following ACGME guidelines.

    Present well-organized case presentations to other physicians and staff.

    Participate in and satisfactorily complete all required rotations in the curriculum.

    Participation in research activities. Present at regional and/or local conferences/meetings.

    Participates in interactions with other learners.

    Perform other duties as directed.

     

    The above list of accountabilities is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by the positions; it should not be considered exhaustive.

     

    An active license as a Doctor of Medicine (MD), or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) that is in good standing.

    Satisfactorily completed the requirements of an ACGME Accredited Internal Medicine Residency

    Thorough understanding of vascular pathology and be able to develop a diagnostic and therapeutic plan for a wide spectrum of vascular diseases.

    Perform common venous procedures with minimal supervision and be the operating physician on venous procedures assisted by the surgical attending/vascular medicine attending.

    Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries.

    Must be able to input and retrieve information from the computer.

    Must demonstrate, by actual performance, the requisite physical skills for the performance of venous procedures.

    Must be a medical doctor in good standing and maintain patient confidentiality. Must have independent judgment and excellent interpersonal skills.
