Job Description
The Senior Environmental Scientist supports all aspects of the environmental program for Kuna Engineering and its clients throughout Alaska. The position will support clients on planning and executing environmental projects that may include field work, planning, and subsequent reporting. Primary activities will include various environmental data collection, field work planning, environmental permitting, and regulatory analyses or documentation according to client and project requirements. The Environmental Scientist shall work with the environmental team to plan environmental projects and schedules to meet client requirements. The individual shall also have an active role in business development and planning/writing proposals for new projects that involve environmental services.
Responsibilities
+ Technical planning and execution of environmental projects, including document authoring and completion
+ Leadership of environmental department team
+ Leadership of field sampling and data collection projects including leadership of other Kuna employees and/or subcontractor(s). Developing sampling and field plans.
+ Management of health and safety for field programs as assigned.
+ Ability to work across multiple on-going projects and environmental disciplines.
+ Regular client interaction with emphasis on permitting and environmental programs
+ Subject matter expertise in water, air quality, remediation, or other environmental discipline or media.
+ Provide regulatory support and coordination with local, state, and federal environmental agencies as necessary on environmental concerns.
+ Assistance and provide technical expertise for other environmental compliance or permitting projects/programs
+ Explain regulations, policies, or procedures.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, geology, engineering, chemistry, natural resource management, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
+ 15 years of experience preferred
+ Experience with preparing permit applications and performing environmental analyses for a variety of media: water, wetlands, air, RCRA, etc.
+ Experience with remedial site management, reporting, and analyses of options for moving sites to closure.
+ Experience performing field work, developing project work plans and subsequent reports
+ Ability to adapt to and maintain a safety conscious work environment.

+ Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task and perform work accurately and thoroughly.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors/outdoors
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.
Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment. Will also be on project sites outside.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Employee will travel to remote areas and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs.
