Overview

Rhode Island Energy is seeking a talented and experienced Manager of External Communications to join our dynamic communications team. If you have a passion for the energy industry and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you! #RIE #INDRIE

Responsibilities

+ Reporting to the Head of Communications, manage external communications strategies, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and values

+ Develop and maintain strong media relations to enhance the company's visibility and reputation – this includes with local, regional, national and trade media

+ Support social media efforts, including content creation, monitoring, and engagement

+ Craft compelling stories and messaging that highlight the company's initiatives, achievements, and impact to be used in news releases, OpEds, social media posts, and other external communications

+ Collaborate with internal teams to ensure cohesive and consistent communication across all channels

+ Employ a rapid response mindset to manage crisis communications at a moment’s notice and act as a spokesperson when needed

+ Monitor industry trends and provide insights to enhance communication strategies

+ Must be available and willing to work during the company’s storm and emergency response engagements to effectively deliver information to the public

Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field

+ 8-10 years of experience in external communications, media relations, and social media management

+ Excellent understanding of the news media, news cycles, media measurement and media relations strategies

+ Ability to quickly understand and vet potential brand risk and critical issues and create a response strategy

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills

+ Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

+ Experience in the energy industry is a plus

+ Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse teams

+ Proactive and responsive in a fast-paced environment

Remote Work

The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
