Summary This National Guard position is for a IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN) - Title 32, Position Description Number D1687000 and is part of the WI 128 ACS, Wisconsin Air National Guard. Responsibilities As an IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN) - Title 32, GS-2210-11, the incumbent will support the critical Air Control Squadron (ACS) Weapon System, ensuring robust and secure network connectivity for tactical radar sites and other key components. This role blends system administration and network specialist expertise, requiring the incumbent to plan, design, and manage complex data, video, and voice networks utilizing a variety of technologies, including fiber optics, copper cabling, and Link 16 radio systems. Responsibilities include configuring, optimizing, and troubleshooting network devices such as routers, switches, and High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryptors (HAIPE); implementing and maintaining stringent network security measures; proactively analyzing network performance to identify and resolve bottlenecks and ensure optimal uptime; and performing preventative maintenance according to Air Force publications and Technical Orders. The incumbent will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless ACS network integration, develop and execute mission accomplishment plans and training programs for assigned guard members, and administer specialized fielded weapon systems, including the AN/TYQ-23A(V)1 Tactical Air Operations Module; AN/TRC-213(V)3 Communication Subsystem Interface Unit; AN/TSC-250 Communications Data Link System; AN/TSQ-235 Joint Range Extension Gateway Tactical Equipment Package; and AN/USQ-T49 Control and Reporting Center Simulation Package. These systems are mission-critical and require specialized knowledge and experience beyond general IT skills. Qualified candidates should possess a mix of experience in network administration, HAIPE device management, Link 16 systems, fiber optic and copper cabling technologies, Air Force publications and Technical Orders, and familiarity with the specific fielded weapon systems listed. Requirements Conditions of Employment MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Grades: E-3 through E-6 *Trainees will be accepted (at GS-09 level) Conditions of Employment: - National Guard Membership is required. - Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. - Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. - This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. - Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. - THIS POSITION CONDUCTS INFORMATION ASSURANCE FUNCTIONS. THE INCUMBENT SHALL COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AND WILL BE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN CERTIFICATION. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE OUTLINED IN DOD INSTRUCTION 8570.01-M Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems. *Trainees will be accepted (GS-09 level) SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify at the GS-2210-11 level, you must have at least 36 months experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Education Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: At the GS-11 level, a Ph.D. or equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. *You must submit your college transcripts in order to substitute education for specialized experience.* Additional Information If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency (https://www.sss.gov/RegVer/wfRegistration.aspx).
