    The metallic materials application engineer (MAE) provides materials expertise and technical leadership for multiple material systems across a variety of components. The focus of this role is the development and application of metallic materials and processes across a variety of aviation components within the supply chain. In this role you will work with new products and legacy teams to solve complex technical problems. This role has a direct effect on short-term and some long-term business goals. The role requires horizontal partnership with design, sourcing, and quality to ensure robust technical solutions for the customer.

     

    This role will specifically focus on hot and cold section static structures and combustors.

    Job Description

    Essential Responsibilities:

    + Hardware ownership of hot and/or cold structural materials for various programs.

    + Prepare and present TRL plans for varying projects related to structures hardware.

    + Support and drive the qualifications of new suppliers of forged rings and structural hardware ensuring robust processes while supporting supply chain capacity improvements.

    + Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.

    + Support to supply chain, attendance at audits and pre-production meetings

    + Participate on business and industry teams supporting overall improvement in the application of special processes for critical rotating parts.

    + Provide technical and strategic support to supply chain through attendance at audits/reviews and pre-production meetings.

    + Define technical specifications and establish process limits.

    + Share engineering information and promote open dialogue.

    + Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

    + Participate on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    + Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or related field

    + Minimum of 8 years' experience in disciplinary engineering and science

    + Willingness and ability to travel, as required

    Desired Characteristics:

    + Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgy

    + Experience with aerospace or gas turbine industry manufacturing, quality systems and field support.

    + Experience with processing of structural hardware.

    + In depth understanding of metallurgy, manufacturing processes and inspections such as forging, and heat treatment.

    + In depth understanding of the supply chain

    + Strong oral and written communication skills

    + Effective problem identification and solution skills

    + Proven analytical and organizational ability

    + Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

    + Self-motivated and able to work independently and in teams

    + Must have ability to work successfully in a team environment

    + Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously

    + Must have desire to perform technical work
